How to evolve Golbat!?

I'm playing Pokemon HeartGold and I just can't figure out how to evolve my golbat! D: Web pages are telling me to 'improve its happiness' but I have no idea what that means, and others are telling me to trade. What's the deal? :|

You raise Golbat's happiness level for it to evolve into a Crobat. You can do this by letting it gain levels, challenging gym leaders, using vitamins, getting 'haircuts,' and walking with it in your party. However, there are some things that reduce happiness, like letting your Pokemon faint, using certain items like EnergyPowder, Revival Herbs or Energy Roots.

Just use it in battle and it'll get happy automatically.

Yeah happiness is always an awkward one. If you get stuck again try Serebii, they're pretty good.

Pretty much what AotA said. You can also get it groomed once a day to improve its happiness faster by Blue's sister in Pallet Town. After it has enough happiness just level it up once and it should evolve.

Give it rare candies, keep it in slot 1, don't let it faint, train it often, etc.

^ What they've mentioned, and let it hold the Shell Bell, don't drop it off in the Day Care, and talk to it when it's in the first slot. Oh! Give it Aprijuice! ^-^

Just walk around for a bit
