How do you judge a game when browsing the game store?

Say you're at GameStop or whatever such shop you have, not really there for anything in particular, just browsing. You see a game that catches your attention just enough to take the case off the shelf and examine it. You know nothing to very little about the game. How do you judge whether or not you will take a leap of faith and give it a go? The box art? The title? The screen shots on the back?

For me, a major factor is price. My first thought is that I can't help but think the game isn't too great if costs the same as a bag of chips or a Hot-N-Ready from Little Caesar's. (But then again, F-Zero GX is only 5 bucks used although knowing how good it is I would have paid 20.) I also won't lie, the box art does make a big impression too.

What say you?

Depends, I try to see how the general public thinks of it. If I see a game that looks interesting or is made by one of my favorite developers, I'd usually go to a site like Metacritic, and if the game has at least a 50 in rankings I usually give it a chance next time I find it, and if for a reasonable price(there's no way I'm paying for more than $5 for a game that I might not end up liking)

I typically look at the box art! If the box art is nice then I check the price. If the price is too high for what I'm willing to pay, I'll normally skip it until it's cheaper or altogether. A lot of the best games I've bought have been random games I've picked up with no information on it.

The scenario is that you spontaneously go into GameStop with no particular game in mind and you're just browsing. Without research, how do you judge on if you will give a game you've never heard of a chance? (Unless you aren't the type to pick up a game without research first which I can't exactly blame you either, thank God for the internet these days).

Even then, I still check the developer and publisher, and maybe the genre, considering the bad luck I've had at buying games based on boxart, I don't do that anymore, I learned that the hard way with Dragon Ball Z Ultimate Battle 22.

I ask the workers their opinion on it, as I am personal friends with most people at my GameStop.

Ha, I guess the "can't judge a book by its cover" axiom applies here, too.

If I like the box art I'll pick it up. Then I'll check the back to see the type of game it is, then I'll look it up on GameRankings on my phone. If it has over 70%, I'll buy it depending on price and how interested I am.

I look at the screen shots on the back if the cover grabs my attention then check the reviews and ratings on my phone.
