Animal Crossing: New Leaf SOLD OUT in Japan

Now, typically, Nintendo would probably just put in another order with the manufacturer for a second run of the game, but New Leaf is far from typical.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has revealed that New Leaf uses a special type of cartridge that allows for increased data storage. Unfortunately, this irregularity means production is likely to take a little longer than usual. Iwata contends that the difference in parts means it'll be a couple of months before more copies can find their way to market.

Hopefully Nintendo can iron out these issues before the game launches in North America next year. It'd be dreadful if a shortage ensued and we were all held hostage by greedy internet highwaymen.

tl;dr, AC:NL uses a special cartridge. Nintendo didn't think it would sell this well and it will now be 2 months before they have more copies.

Animal Crossing is ****ing HUGE in Japan. That is what makes this such a fail on Nintendo's part, they should have known that it was so popular.

Nintendo really are making a lot of stupid moves lately I guess. They did this with OOT3D didn't they.

It's a little different than with OOT. With OOT, all they had to do was load more of the ROM files onto the carts print, package, and ship. AS:NL uses a new type of cartridge that only this particular game uses (at the current at least), and they are having to produce more cartridges before loading on the ROM, etc. That is holding it up, and giving people who didn't buy at launch a 2 month wait time.

It probably won't do nearly as well in the West as it did in Japan, but I'm hoping this game turns out to be worth the hype.

Of course it won't. Cutesy shit doesn't command the sales here like it does in Japan.

Unless Tom Nook was an arms dealer and hooked on meth.

And you had to take him down in a 3-hour campaign.

With guns.

I'd call it Animal Crossing: Marijuana Leaf.
