How to prove Wii U is next gen

Ah, the internet. A marvelous land of...err...who am I kidding? the internet is full of ignorance and trolls. Many people either can't afford the Wii U, or are in denial that the current gaming generation is coming to a close. They come up with anything they can to try and prove than the Wii U is not next gen, and that Nintendo is simply upping their game too late. Here are some rebuttals to help you prove the opposite should you find yourself in such a scenario (as I already have multiple times).

Processing power

The Wii U packs anIBM Power7 multicore processor with eDRAM cache. You probably don't know what that means, but a simple way to put it is that the Wii U processor is only 1 generation behind the often taunted "PC Master race". In comparison, the Xbox 360 and PS3 processors are about 7 generations behind a top notch gaming PC's processor. So, what sounds more efficient to you? 1 year behind PC or 7 years behind PC? It's quite likely your android phone, or even your slide or flip phone has a better processor than your 360 and PS3.

RAM (Random Access Memor)

First off, a little tech lesson from an IST major. What is RAM? I know a lot of you here probably already know, as most of you are computer savy. In case some of you are not, here is what it means.Random-access memory (RAM) is a form of computer data storage. A random-access device allows stored data to be accessed in very nearly the same amount of time for any storage location, so data can be accessed quickly in any random order. On your PC, RAM determines how much your system can handle at once. If you have too many programs running, and your computer starts to lag, it's because you are running out of RAM storage.

The Wii U has 2 Gigabytes of RAM. 1 GB of this 2GB capacity is dedicated to the operating system. That sounds like a lot when you lok at the numbers and say "wow, that's half!" but a Gigabyte is 1,024 Megabytes, so that's 1,024 MB of RAM dedicated to your game and anything else. In comparison, the Xbox 360 as well as the PS3 have only 512 Megabytes. That's half a gig! The Wii U has 4x the RAM of PS3 and 360.

Graphics

Ok, let me just say that I hate Call of Duty, but it is a widely played, popular game and it is the perfect example for me to use. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 (as well as all other CoD games) on PS3 and 360 are what you would call "Sub HD". they are not displayed in 1080p even if your console is set to that display setting, and furthermore the games FPS drops from 60 nearly constantly. In other words, there are few moments where the game is actually running 60 FPS.

In comparison, the Wii u version of Black Ops 2 runs in 1080p and is locked at 60 FPS at all times. I'm not just blowing smoke here - Activision themselves have said that the Wii U version is definitive, and if you don't believe me, use Google. I'm not going to post a link because you are perfectly capable of finding a source on your own if you don't believe me.

People have also been saying "Well, the games I'm looking at don't look that different from the 360 and PS3." and the only thing I can say to anyone using that pathetic excuse is that they are truly ignorant.

the following is footage from "GUN" on the Xbox 360, which was released for the system near launch.

the textures are like that on the PS2, the animation is rough....hell, the game's ugly. Now, in comparison, here is footage from Halo 4, also for the Xbox 360 but released just a few weeks ago.

See the HUGE drastic improvement? You'd have to be blind not to. Now, here is footage from some Wii U launch titles.

As you can plainly see, the launch Wii U titles look just as good as what is currently being released for the PS3 and 360. Take into account all of the above specifications. think about the stark contrast between GUN and Halo 4. What do you think the Wii U games will look like in 5 years?

Hopefully, if you w ere skeptic, I have changed your mind, and if someone has been butting heads with you, you can use my points to shut them up.

The rumor that says the Nextbox is only 20% more powerful than the Wii U is starting to be more accurate.

I'm calling it now, the Wii U will be the PS2 of the next gen

PS2 had some fantastic games that are now considered classics, so honestly, that's cool with me.

If the Wii U is as successful as the PS2 in both games and sales, that'd be awesome. So far it's been hard for me with the graphics, as my eyes aren't too good so I find it difficult to see changes unless they're drastic. Mario does look really nice in HD, though. Not too sure about the controllers screen though. It looks to be slightly above the 3DS graphics and below the Vita's. It looks good of course, but when you look from controller to TV the difference is extremely noticeable, which gives me a false impression of the controllers graphics not being good enough.

Do we really need a thread trying to prove the U's legitimately in the 8th generation? I think its a good console, you think its a good console. No matter how many threads you make gamecube they're still going to be ignorant people who will love their 360/ps3 a whole lot more.

Unless of course you're making these threads because they're is a niggling doubt in the back of your mind about how great your new console is so you're making these threads to try to reassure yourself.

There's doubts in my mind. 2 decent original titles at launch and neither of them are exceptional. Only Pikmin 3 and hopefully a few other releases will keep me happy.

Edit: who am I kidding, NSMBU can't be counted as an original title. Make it 1.

While I do acknowledge that the 7th generation is coming to a close, the Wii U isn't really impressing me with its library yet.

But hey, time will tell. While I really want to root for the Wii U and as time goes on, we will see. Right now, I predict a similar fate as the Wii with tons upon tons of shovelware.

Launch lineups, especially with the last couple of consoles, have been hit and miss for me. 3DS' launch was dreadful, yet it balanced back out with a pretty good lineup of games so far. Still has ways to go, but they're getting their footholds with Professor Layton, Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, and Luigi's Mansion.

If memory serves 360's launch lineup was pretty pathetic. Wasn't Perfect Dark Zero part of it? And it had lukewarm reception. Same thing with Kameo: Elements of Power, which I'm pretty sure was a launch game. Correct me on that.

And the PS3. *laughs* Ohh, PS3.

So yeah, don't let the launch lineup really distract you. Wait a year or so and we'll see some good games for Wii U.

I hope so. I'm just disappointed with the lack of even announcements for many games.

I agree with the 3DS thing too, the launch wasn't good at all but there are quite a few good games. Although over (almost) 2 years it's been out I've bought just 9 games for it, still want to buy 3, so 12 isn't bad but it isn't amazing. There's about 6 or 7 titles this year that I'm interested in for the 3DS though, so hopefully Wii U will follow.
