What if the Zelda series went for an M-rating?

Usually, when we think of Nintendo we don't think "mature" ratings. And I am not saying an M rating would automatically make the game better just for being rated M. I am just curious as to what you would think and if you think this would be an interesting direction for the series.

I think it would be an interesting experiment.

I don't think it's anything that Nintendo should shoot for. Even in their games rated E, they lay some mature themes down pretty thick, veiled only by the fantasy setting.

If they ever did recieve the M rating, I'm pretty I would be happy with the game for its story and gameplay, not for what gave it an M rating.

Obviously Nintendo wouldn't try it, but if they did you can say for certain that Link plays a 'Don'/'Godfather' like role and Zelda is purely his love interest that has been kidknapped by the capo of an enemy mob.

I think it would be interesting to see them experiment with a darker story. Maybe some real blood and such.

I'm of the mind that a story doesn't have to be bloody to be dark. For me, what makes a story dark is something completely unsettling and morbid.

Majora's Mask dealt with this in spades. It is almost literally the five stages of grief in video game form. And I think that's why a lot of people love the story; it's a morbid truth of life that all of us have to face. All throughout the game you meet people as the world is slowly ending, each one going through different stages of grief, and learning their stories you begin to care for them. And every time you reset, and go back to the first day, you lose it. It was a truly beautiful story.

I just think that if Nintendo tried to go for a bloody story to set a dark mood, I think it'd just feel jarring. Nintendo stories can be dark, emotional, and endearing without the need for bloodshed.

It'd feel unnecessary. I'm all for more mature themes and stories, but it doesn't need an M rating for that

I'm dreaming for that day that we get more of a back story on Ganondorf... that'd make a good mature game.
