People that hate Wind Waker because of the graphics

I don't get it. I have to assume most of these people did not play the game. However, it's unfair to say none of them have. I have a friend - an acquaintance, more like. He never had a Gamecube, and me and some others were suggesting games to him since he planned to get one. He likes Zelda, so of course we recommended Twilight Princess and Wind Waker. He objected saying he didn't want to even play Wind Waker because it was "childish". Even now, after he has played the game he says he doesn't like it, still using the art style as a crutch. I told him about the new Remake and he replied that he didn't even want to try it, because it still looks too childish. I really don't understand. You don't have to like Wind Waker. It's perfectly fine to dislike it. I just think you should have better reasoning than "it looks childish".

Wind Waker truly is the most childish game in the series. Yet, it pays off with the most magnificent adventure in the series. People who are blinded by the child-friendly atmosphere, I am very sorry for you.

Ready for the kicker? He loves Luigi's Mansion. That's like, the most grimdark survival horror experience ever, am I right?

Since when has cel shading been childish? One of the first cel shaded games was Fear Effect, not for kids at all. I thought the games graphics was one of its major selling points and the only reason I got interested in that one. Silly people. I liked Windwaker better than Twilight Princess to be honest.

The graphics to this game is mostly what drew me to it. I'm a sucker for bright colors. Though, I do tend to lean more towards realistic graphics for games in the genre. I really loved how WW was executed. I feel it wouldn't have been as good if they had made it more realistic, like that of TP. Seeing how Link is a young boy through out the whole game it seems fitting to give the player an illusion of youth with brighter colors. Comparing to the art style of SS, less kiddy looking, polished over and more adult looking to pair with an older Link.

Another point I'd like to raise on it. The sound track. It too matches with the graphic scheme. The music is more fluid and bright. Given the darker tracks even matching the darker parts of the game. The Forbidden Fortress in example. It really helps set the tone for the game in general. You can't look at this:

And drum up this song in your head:

Even though some of us have already played the game and know the music wouldn't match, but more than likely to a first time player that song is going to match more with this place:

I don't think the graphics make it childish, but it does give off the feeling that it is for 'kids', which, yeah, I would assume to be "childish", but not in the context the majority of the people use it as. Besides, he played it and didn't like it because it was childish? What kind of reason is that to not like a game?

I thought the graphics were awesome and wanted to play it even more. Some people miss out on so many great games because they think Nintendo is for kids.

I wish I could make a good argument saying that Wind Waker's graphics aren't childish, and if you really want to get down to it, they're most definitely not. They're stylized to give more personality to an already colorful cast of characters.

But the fact of the matter is that this game drew me in because when it came out, I was a kid and I thought the game looked like a cartoon. I mean, imagine being 11, reading in magazines about this cool looking game called The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, with these graphics! It's like you're playing a Saturday morning cartoon! What kid couldn't get on board?!

This is where The Wind Waker becomes the most influential, and perhaps most polarizing Zelda game ever, because those kids who started playing Zelda with Wind Waker are mature now, and having grown up with WW can't really fathom exactly why these other people have an issue with this game.

In contrast, you have the other side of the coin, people who grew up with OoT, AlttP, or even the original NES Zelda games. And while they had an anime-esque looking Link to accompany some of the promo art for these games, said promotional art still came across as featuring a fantasy-epic land. OoT helped with this, given the fact that the landscapes seemed more realistic than cartoony.

So why, then, did Nintendo make this game that looked like some cartoon? Who were they appeasing to now with the Zelda franchise, children?!

The line was clearly drawn with Wind Waker; one side were the people who enjoyed the game for the graphics, and those who didn't on the other.

I really don't have an issue with those who didn't like the game for its graphics, because aside from that just being their personal opinion, maybe they still liked the game for its gameplay or for its story, which was surprisingly more mature than it was initially thought to be. The fact is that whenever one of these people speak out against the graphics, everyone freaks out and acts like they hate the game in general. "How dare you not like this game that I have a lot of nostalgia for?!"

So in reality, no one is right or wrong in the argument against Wind Waker; it's just that no one can respect each other's opinions.
