The Tooth Paste Trick works apparently O_O

So for a while now I've heard on various forums and other such places on the internet that if a game (or DVD,CD, etc) is not reading properly, you can clean it with tooth paste to fix it. Sound pretty stupid, huh?

Basically, you smear tooth paste on the back of the disc - a white, plain tooth paste with no grits or beads in it. Then you let it sit for a few minutes, and run water over the disc while rubbing the toothpaste off with your finger. Let it dry before you try playing it.

Well, I have a copy of Soul Calibur II for the Gamecube On a Gamcube system, it will not make it to a character select screen. In a wii, it will make it through half a match. Thee is a minuscule crack on the inner plastic portion of the disc, and for the longest time I blamed this. Today, I looked at the bottom of the disc and there were quite a few scratches I was unaware of. I decided to try to toothpaste trick - after all, the game is already messed up, it's not like it would matter if it got messed up.

I am happy to report that I just played about 15 matches in survival. The game works fine! So next time you have a game that doesn't want to read, try this stupid sounding toothpaste thing. Seriously.

With older discs and regular DVDs it works. I saw someone try it with a Blu-ray. Not so pretty result. It mostly just fills in the void where the data would be.

Wow. That's actually pretty cool. I probably won't have a need for it since I keep all my new games sparkling and luckily my old ones all work, but if one stops I may give it a go.

Yeah, I did that yrs ago that I found from another forum when I used to have an old PS1 game that had too many scratches on it. But, I think this method need to be used periodically if u play that game very often.

Does it last or will I need to do it again eventually?

Depends, most have to do it a few times because of wear on the disc from playing.

Interesting. I usually use alcohol for scratched disks and they work just fine afterwards.

I found this out when the disc drive on my old Wii wouldn't read my Wii Sports disc. We tried the toothpaste trick, and at first it didn't work, but looking into the problem more, it was the disc drive that had gone bad.

Once we tried the disc on the new Wii, it worked like a charm.

I used this trick all the time if the game sustained a scratch. Anything else, it doesn't work.
