Best fighter this generation?

What was, in your opinion, the best fighting game this generation? There were a TON of new and returning fighting games our of blue for some reason. No complaints from me! What was, in your opinion, the best?

I'm going to go with the BlazBlue franchise. They won my heart barely trying. Pretty much everything about all the games so far have been amazing. The character design is interesting, and all of the characters feel very distinct and of themselves. Taokaka for example is probably the most interesting take of a neko I've seen in a while.

The story of BlazBlue I also found to be incredible, and that says a lot because normally fighting games have horrendous storylines. Even BlazBlue's spiritual predecessor, Guilt Gear, has a nonsense story. I admit, at first BlazBlue has an incredibly hard to grasp story, but eventually it is very easy to understand, and never stops being entertaining.

And you can't talk about BlazBlue without talking about its heavenly soundtrack. I'm not going to ramble about that part, you can listen. here is a link to the track "Nightmare Fiction" that plays during Ragna vs Hazama matches.

And of course, the most important aspect is the gameplay. BlazBlue is the most accessible 2D fighter I've played. With very little instruction, a new player can get a grasp of the basics. Whoever came up with the ABCD button layout deserves a medal.

There are still many fighters from this gen I need to play, but out of the ones I did I suppose I'd have to say my favorite is Super Street Fighter IV. Or at least the one I've spent the most time on, online and off.

I don't know why I seem to be one of the only people who didn't like SFIV that much.

I don't like it that much either, but it's hard to deny that its release breathed life back into the fighting genre.

Are you talking about the original version or Super?
The original was terribly unbalanced and the online was pretty bad, but Super was a huge improvement. In terms of the game itself, the engine was pretty stiff and I really wish it was more akin to the engine in Street Fighter X Tekken, but overall I think it was a pretty solid fighter. But it's certainly no Street Fighter Alpha 3.
