Nintendo has rather made themselves infamous for being absolutely unrealistic. Whether it be steering a boat made of mud on top of lava using a water pump (Super Mario Sunshine), or jumping off a ten-story building, but just slashing in midair will avoid any breaking of the limbs (Ocarina of Time).

Do you all believe that realism in games could break it? I have my opinions, but I wanna hear what you all think.

It depends on the game. For example, people who play UFC video games like the realism. The more real the physics and mechanics are, the more into they are. On the other hand, people who play Street Fighter could care less how realistic the physics are. That game has people whirling up tornadoes, and stretching their limbs across the screen. They don't play it for the realism.

As mentioned above it depends on how grounded in reality the universe of the game is. Of course in a game about a fireball shooting plumber who rides a dinosaur using magic warp pipes to travel around a fantasy land of walking turtles and other monsters to save a princess from a dragon....realism clearly isn't a priority. Of course in a game universe we are supposed to take seriously that is grounded in reality such as Metal Gear Solid, realism is important.

As far as realism breaking games goes...well I'm pretty sure the reason most people play video games has to do with escaping reality and/or taking control of someone much more powerful than they are for a sense of empowerment. I don't think a game that is 100% realistic exists. Pretty sure in reality no man can really fight an entire army by himself no matter how well armed and well trained he is.

These were my thoughts. Of course everybody plays games for different reasons, though I do believe every game should somewhat unrealistic. It could look realistic, but people want to feel totally empowered.

Yeah I doubt there is a huge crowd of people waiting for Real Life: The Video Game

Level 1: A fight with the school bully where you get your ass kicked because he is programmed to dodge all your attacks.

Level 2: Prom Night (must be 18 or older to play this level)

Level 3: Wedding Day (say your vows in a series of quick time events. Messing up results in you forgetting your vows and your fiance cancelling the wedding)

Level 4: Driving to work

Sounds like day one pickup right there.

I would have thought almost every games company up until recently made unrealistic games. I mean, it's a game. Unless it's a simulator or something like FIFA I don't see why they need to try and make it realistic.

I find that this is a good idea.
Realism is important to certain games but then with fantasy it's better to bend the rules more.

I am getting annoyed with Mojang giving the excuse "it's to make the game more realistic" to some pretty annoying updates. You punch trees and the wood comes out in a block form then you can place it again as good as new. Because that's realistic. Realism was the excuse they made for adding the hunger bar.
I like that the bar makes it more challenging in some aspects like making food more essential, but I think they're using the wrong excuses for updates.
Minecraft will never be realistic.
