Post 2D Space Shooters

Hello forum. I have a growing addiction for 16bit 2D Space Shooters (Shoot 'em Ups, SHMUPS) vertical/horizontal/etc. As long as I fly around in a little spaceship. Below I've compiled a list of all the games I know of that fit into this category however, I'm not sure if this is all of the games. If anyone can direct me to a complete list or recomend me games that fall under this category that would be cool. Thanks! Note: I'm not interested in any PAL/JAP releases only NTSC. I am also not interested in 2D shooters that arn't Spaceship shooters i.e. Contra III and Sunset Warriors.

R-Type III: Third Lightning
Space Megaforce (Super Aleste)
Axelay
Gradius III
U.N. Squadron
Darius Twin
Phalanx
HyperZone
Earth Defense Force
Firepower 2000
Raiden Trad
Super Nova

Thanks again!

I actually have a few bullet hell games and they're really fun. I don't know if the 2D shooters you play are that chaotic but then again they're not 16 bit so I couldn't help you. My bad.

Emulate some Turbografx16, half that system's library are these type of games.

Not sure if any are on SNES, but look up Twinbee games.

Also Earth Defense Force is my personal faovurite, cool to see it's already on your list.

As far as I know, Polybius doesn't have a 16bit console port. There's a pc version I know of but other than that I'm pretty sure it never got ported from the arcades.

--

Yeah, I've aware of the Turbografx16's shooters, there are a lot of good ones. A lot more than the SNES for sure, however I really don't like playing on emulators it really detracts from the fun for me and I'm not really interested in the Turbografx for anything besides shooters so until I get around to purchasing one I'm just gonna stick to SNES games.

As for the Pop'n TwinBee games there are two and they're both PAL releases, so I'm not really interested in picking them up. They seem decent though.

EDF is definitely cool, that's one of the things I like about the SNES's shooter library. It's small, but no two games are really alike. Each of them really kinda stand apart from each other. For a top down perspective, EDF is really quite different from Space Megaforce and the vertical Axelay levels. All good stuff.

Lol.
To be fair there are some interpretations of the game but I guess that's not what you're lookin' for. I can't really help you with shooter games so I'll just duck out here.

Since this is the Super Nintendo sub-forum I am assuming you only want the games for this platform so I reccommend Contra III the most.
