Opinion on Smash Balls?

I was talking to someone who was going to enter the tournament my work is holding, and he decided to drop out of the tournament due to Smash Ball turned on for the preliminaries only.

They would be turned off for finals, which would also be final destination only (preliminaries will be played on randomly selected tourney legal stages). I've always considered final smashes to be part of the character's move set - just part of the game, like supers in Street Fighter.

What do you think of them?

I have issues with them(mostly balancing) but I think they were a great addition to the game

Never have really been a fan of final smashes. Mostly because they feel like there were ramrodded in at the last second and wildly unbalanced. But if time is a factor then by all means because some will clear the arena quickly.

Time is the main reason I opted to use them. We're trying to run this thing between 5 p.M. and around midnight, while having both Brawl and Melee brackets. We don't have all night. I'm also turning the 10 minute timer on along with 3 stock.

In that sense, I can fully understand having them on. SSB fights tend to take a long time anyway.

I even ran a test using tourney mode and CPUs. With Smash Balls, it cut the time almost in half. Melee is going to take a long time as is, so we will have limited time for Brawl. Plus Metaknight and Sonic are both 100% banned, so it's not like I ignored all tourney rules. As for the random stage thing, they are all stages that are considered tourney legal, and excuse me for wanting people to have fun and wanting my event to not be monotonous.

No items, FD, Fox. That's all that SSB tournaments tend to become besides that one person using a off the wall character. Rules make sense. Just going to be a lot of wave dashing.

At the end of the day, it's a game. It's part of the game, so why turn it off? I don't care about any unbalance, unfairness, luck etc. Stuff like that is always going to happen no matter what you play. I honestly don't understand why some people feel the need to overreact when it comes to stages and characters, and items.

They're a nice addition to the game, fun for when you're just messing around in multiplayer. I don't play with items most of the time though.

Thing they are the ONLY item that will be used, set to low, and only during the preliminaries. Semi finals and finals are vanilla as **** final destination matches.
