3DS Advice

I ultimately know what I wanna do, but I want to hear some of you guys out on this:

Okay so I have an Aqua Blue 3DS with a Resident Evil skin cover. Perfect condition, all good, it's been my baby for two years now. Except like six months ago, the R button began to wear out. And by that I mean it clicks, it's still intact, but it functions whenever it feels like it. Now, I called Nintendo four months ago when I had a warranty and the guy told me to just clean the button and for a while it worked a little more. But it's just dead. Like, I can't take pictures in Animal Crossing, can't aim in Resident Evil, or use the gyroscope in Luigi's Mansion.

I called Nintendo this morning, the guy recommends that I send it to them and pay 95 bucks to repair it. Except they don't make Aqua Blue ones anymore. So they'd replace the R button with a black part. And they might physically make it all black. And I don't want that. If the Aqua Blue 3DSes are no longer being produced, that technically makes them collectible handhelds. So it makes me love my faulty one even more. I kinda wanna put it back in the box and cherish it forever.

SO. My question to you guys: would you fix it? Would you replace it with another one? Would you upgrade for the 3DS XL? In my opinion, the process isn't that much worth it....but at the same time it is. I'd pay about 200 bucks for a 3DS XL, but it would be fully functional. I could do a system transfer to add all my data onto the new handheld, and link it to my Club Nintendo account to redownload games. Except what happens to my friend code? I'm sure I'd get a new one. What happens to my Mii data? I already completed some puzzles and finished Find Mii three times! Would I start over again? Ugh.

So what would you guys do? I'm gonna upgrade I suppose.

Here are the details on what transfers and what doesn't:

It doesn't say anything about what happens to StreetPass Plaza data, though I'd assume it would transfer as part of the application data being transferred. I can't remember exactly if mine transferred when I completed mine; I think it did.

The bigger question is the Friend Code thing, as the diagram does not state what definitely happens to your FC. I'm thinking it is changed. If so, it's a small hassle, but it's better than losing all your data.

I, for one, prefer the XL over the vanilla 3DS. Altogether it feels like a more well put-together handheld than the vanilla 3DS.

I just recently upgraded and transferred to the AC XL. That picture pretty much says it all. You keep your friend code, and your friends codes transfer over too so you don't have to re-enter them. Streetpass data is also transferred. Pretty much everything is transferred besides credit card info and stuff stored on the sd card, as you put your old sd card in the new system.

(You can transfer your data on the sd card to another sd card by putting old card in computer, drag and dropping to desktop. removed card, put new one in. drag and drop from desktop to new card. VERY IMPORTANT: Do not change anything on card!)

Bolded for emphasis. Cautionary tale: I copied all the data from my old SD card, and corrupted it. The only thing of value that I lost was my ACNL saved data, but it was only a couple days old.

I'd get an XL too, just keep your blue one as it is.
