Why does tabletop gaming come with such a stigma?

Lately, I've began to prefer tabletop gaming to video gaming. I still love my Zeldas, and my Pokemons, and all that stuff, but as far as multiplayer goes I prefer card games, such as Magic the Gathering or Yu-Gi-Oh, and if co-op is your thing, you should definitely try out tabletop RPGs. They are hella fun and can really bring people together. Overall, it feels like tabletop gaming has a much better community than video gaming does, but...why does it come with such a huge stigma?

for example, no one gives a shit if you play Skyrim, but if you play tabletop RPGs, which are essentially the same basic thing, you are branded as having no social skills. Card games of all sorts are apparently considered childish. I just don't get why one form of gaming should be worse than the other in this way.

I don't really understand that either. Tabletop gaming really takes more social skills than playing anything online. I play M:TG, Munchkin, and D&D, I really wish I had more people to play with. I'd also like to try some other tabletop games, but don't really know anyone to help me out, I guess. I could always go to the tabletop game store that's only about 20 minutes away as they do things every night of the week, but I am way too shy to go by myself.

I bust in there with a 12 pack of coke under my arm and wearing an adventure time hat and yell "WE CUTTIN' OFF WYVERNS NUTSACKS, BITCHES!" and then take my seat without saying anything else.

I agree. Kids at my school would play Yu-Gi-Oh! every morning, during lunch, and after school. That's all they'd do, people learned to leave them alone, but outside of their circle people laughed and pointed. Like really? It's the same thing as playing any other game outside in a social environment. And it has a ton of benefits that come out of it.

Plus if you make good pulls and it's a card you don't need, they can be worth $50-$100. yu-Gi-Oh singles are hella expensive.

I play Dungeons and Dragons.
I play Magic: The Gathering.

Guess what else.

I still play console games. I have a social life. I have a girlfriend.
I don't see why people who game should be seen differently.
Silly peasants, judging us~
