New CryEngine - Wii U Compatible

Quote:
Here's a tech demonstration out of gamescom for the latest iteration of CryEngine, which supports current-gen, PS4, Wii U, PC, and Xbox One, with further platforms to come. Calling it simply "CryEngine" is not an oversight on my part -- Crytek has decided to drop the numbers. "Since CryEngine 3 was launched in 2009, we've dramatically changed the engine so many times, with so many major new features, it's not the same engine anymore," explains biz dev director Carl Jones.

The team at Crytek has "overhauled our entire lighting system, built movie-quality character rendering and animation solutions, vastly improved the speed and effectiveness of our Sandbox editor, and even our rendering has changed with tessellation, pixel-accurate displacement mapping, and now physical-based rendering."

Even if I have no interest whatsoever in Ryse: Son of Rome, good gosh does the game look visually appealing. Crytek's free, non-commercial CryEngine SDK has also recently been updated -- expect new features and the removal of restrictions that stopped users from working offline.
