Pokemon X&Y gives you six starters

Quote:

Shrewd, Nintendo.

During this morning's Nintendo Direct, we learned that Pokemon X/Y would grant you access to six possible starter Pokemon. The additional three are Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Charmander; the original three starter Pokemon. Your friend will first offer you one of the X/Y starters, while the game's rock star professor will then let you pick among the original three.

Talk about an appeal to nostalgia. Now I don't have to worry about which crappy new starter I want to be burdened with because they literally don't matter. To me, anyway. But now I have to decide which of the original three is my favorite. This is more difficult.

Additionally, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Charmander will have their own Mega Evolutions. Mega Venusaur, Mega Charizard and Mega Blastoise are unlocked throughout the game. All three look stupid. Mega Evolution is apparently tied to a trainer's Mega Ring bracelet and the Pokemon's Mega Stone. The connection between the Pokemon and trainer are key. This new region (and game) is really pushing the Mega Evolution angle.

There is also a Pokemon Bank app available for purchase (plus an annual fee) that lets you fill 100 boxes with Pokemon and sort through them with ease. Plus, there is also a subsequent Poke Transporter, which helps import your monsters from Pokemon Black/White, Pokemon Black 2/White 2. You can transport the critters into the Bank and then into X and Y. You need the Bank to use the Transporter.

Nintendo also confirmed our earlier reports of Pokemon X and Pokemon Y themed red and blue 3DS models.

Sigh. When will people realise that just because something is old it doesn't mean it can't be improved. So many people are hating on them, saying things like "Childhood successfully raped". I'm pretty sure your childhood is still there and mega evolutions are optional. Everyone wants Nintendo to try new things and when they do they get so much shit for it it's unbelievable. Well, I like them. Venasaur could have done with a bit more but the other two are cool. I mean, Blastoise has hand cannons. Cool as f*ck.

I like the new Pokemon Bank feature they came up with.

**** you, Mega Charizard is awesome. He looks more dragon-like and badass. Blastoise is cool too. Venusaur is the weakest IMO and he still is better.

I think it's pretty awesome that they're bringing back the originals. I have no idea which I'll pick. I already will have Fennekin and Torchic, so I don't really wanna go too fire heavy. The Mega Evolutions of all three don't really make me go "oh wow!", but that's whatever. It's not like you're forced to use it, and it's not like it's permanent if you decide to. To each their own.

Some people are a little upset over Venusaur, Blastoise and Charizard getting Mega Evolutions. Personally I don't think you should be, though I do understand. First, let's get my Pokemon back-history out of the way. My first Pokemon game was Yellow, followed by Silver. I probably played Silver the second most of any of the Pokemon games. Ruby is probably the one I spent the most time on. I hated Diamond and Pearl, but Black And White were amazing. Now that we've got that out of the way, let's move on to business. First off, Pokemon is just a game. I know us 90's kids that grew up with make it into something more. It's actually a bit of a culture at this point. Tons of us still collect the figures, or the cards or do something extracurricular with the series aside from just play the game. Pokemon is definitely something special. But at the heart of it all, it's still a game and games have to change. If Pokemon still played exactly like Gen 1, with cluttered menus and sprites so ugly I could shit prettier pixels, would anyone still play? Mega Evolutions are most likely going to be overpowered, and that bothers some people. What bothers people more is them "butchering" their childhood favorites, like Venusaur, Blastoise and Charizard. But the way I look at it they aren't being butchered at all - they're being expanded. On top of this, Mega Evolutions are probably going to be banned competitively, I can almost guarantee that. So don't worry about it too much.
