Stroke Researchers Recruit Final Patient In Study That Uses Wii For Rehabilitation

The Stroke Research Team at Cornwall recruited a gentleman named Mark Bennett to be the final patient in their research study that investigates whether playing Nintendo Wii for several weeks after an acute stroke is an effective form of rehabilitation.

The unique experiment is called TWIST, or “The Wii In Stroke Study.”

Sufferers of stroke often experience weakness in their arms, and doctors expect the repetitive motions necessary to play Wii games to be instrumental in rehabilitating patients back to normal arm strength.

Doctors at the research center are expecting to release the first results from the study about six weeks from now.

Interestingly, the final participant, Mr. Bennett, is patient number 101.
