Wii U Woes

I'll try to get sources up later.

The PS4 surpassed the Wii U's lifetime-to-date sales in 2 days in the UK. In the same region, Knack surpassed Super Mario 3D World in sales, claiming one spot higher than Mario on the sales chart. Analysts predict that there's no way Nintendo can meet its profit goal this year.

Gentlemen. How do we fix Wii U?

Well it's too late to change the name.

They should have a corporate restructuring as well as replace their Marketing team, as they have little to no idea what in the **** they're supposed to do.

Also, with SM3DW out, they should consider finally giving the plumber a break aside from the main series, RPGs and Mario Kart. No more Mario Party/tennis/golf/sports/math/time travel/modern warfare/etc.

The UK has never been too big on Nintendo as far as I know, but that is still a little unsettling.

The Wii U has a lot of problems, but I won't list or delve too deeply into most of them because I don't want this to turn into an essay. That said, I believe that the biggest thing Nintendo needs to fix right now is to establish a better relationship with third parties and grab their core audience back. They struck gold last gen with the casual crowd with the introduction of the Wii but lost a lot of third party support in the process. They tried to ride off the Wii's success this time around, and now it's coming back to bite them in the ass because those not in the know can't distinguish the Wii from the Wii U from lack of advertising (making Directs more widespread would definitely help in this regard), their core audience had to wait almost a year for decent first party titles and a good majority are still reluctant to buy the console, and once again, third parties are abandoning the platform in lieu of the competition because it's "weaker", though that can tie in with its low sales and install base too. Maybe sales would be a little better if third parties stopped making half-assed ports and cutting content from the Wii U version of their games too.

Still, 2014 is looking like a good year for the console with a strong line up of games, and if 3D World doesn't turn things around, I'm sure Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, and Smash 4 will definitely move units.

Wii U has officially lost the battle now the new consoles are out, everybody knew this would happen let's face it.

Wii U is a solid bit of kit with some alright games but 3rd party developers have already stated they're not going to support it any longer. So while it only has a few years life expectancy. PS4 + XB1 have 8-10 years.

Personally i'm waiting for the Wii U to hit that sega dreamcast sweet spot, where i can buy it for 80 and then buy ALL the good games for about 40 because as of right now? It's done, cya.

As for my ps4 and xb1 reviews..

XB1
Games - Hardly anything good at the moment, DR3 is great.
XBL - THEY RUINED IT! OH MY GOD WHAT HAPPENED TO PARTY CHAT! now you can snap skype.. great so now i can watch my friend while i play my game because my human brain is totally good at watching two screens at one time.. because thats how a human brain works, good thing xb1 was designed for humans..
INTERFACE - it looks like a cross between windows 8 and it's really hard to navigate with a controller, too bad the voice controls BLOW
GIMMICKS - the whole media entertainment is a pain, i mean if you're in the US you're looking at a hefty satellite subscription and if you're in the UK it doesn't work AT ALL, not even with our freeview box's...

PS4
- Games, well it has a few good titles...
- PSN, it's more of the same, but BETTER
- Interface, Again, the same but BETTER
- GIMMICKS, well... they have netflix.. what more do you want?.. play some god damn games.

Overall, i'd say the best console to buy this christmas is...

THE 3DS XL

Yes i'm dead serious, it has the BEST software at this current time, Zelda, Mario, Castlevania etc.

Seriously, i know it's "kiddy" but heres a secret, we all age the same speed, stop trying to break out of your childishness. The joy of life is still pretending you're a child.

WOO 3DS NINTENDO RUL3Z

but yes Glastonbury.

Wii U is dying, give it the MGS3 salute.

I'm still holding out hope on the Wii U. Yes, it's currently sitting there under my TV as a dust collector because I can't afford WWHD and SM3DW, but it will get some love some day! Then the games next year! I didn't think they'd hold out against PS4 and XB1 but I it'll do better when the new Smash Bros comes out. That's what a lot of people are waiting for, I think. The 3DS though, that's my most used system~

^ This.

More than anything else, I've believed for a good while that a better click with third parties is needed. Third parties can be considered backbones for them all, IMO.

I agree that the marketing could have been better. They have finally stepped it up a bit in this regard because I am seeing many more commercials for Wii U on TV. In terms of third party releases, they really need to step it up. Have the Wii U ports available alongside the other versions, not half a year later when everyone who wanted the game has it already. Also don't gimp Wii U owners with inferior versions. Arkham Origins is missing multiplayer on Wii U (even though the multiplayer reportedly sucks, it's the principle). At least they had the courtesy to charge less, but still, why go with the incomplete version of the game?

But right now there is little incentive to get Wii U because it lacks the very aspect of why people buy Nintendo consoles: first party IPs. Yes there is plenty of Mario and Pikmin 3 and an HD remake of Zelda WW but where is the original Wii U Zelda? Metroid? Starfox? Hopefully they deliver in 2014. Plus, Smash Bros is a system seller so if it's solid it can very well turn things around.

I don't know how credible since it's just a IGN forum post, but I'll post it here anyway. Sales for the Black Friday weekend posted

Other notes of interest:
Sales are down 421,937 hardware units in the US this year.
Super Mario 3D World puts up another 144,709 in the US, bringing the US total to 387,902.
Around 100,000 (+/-20K) of the Wii U sales in the US are from the NSMBU/NSLU bundle.
This is the most the Wii U has sold worldwide since the week ending Dec 22nd 2012.
Wii U lifetime sales are now at 4,366,262. Wii U WW sales are expected (well I expect it anyway) to rise (after a one week fall) as it get closer to Dec 25th, for a total of around 5.5 million Wii U's sold by the end of the 2013 sales year.
For comparisons sake, the PS3 put up 157,949 units in the US on it's first non-launch black friday, while the 360 put up 240,843. So the Wii U's first non launch black friday--at 188,493--is in between those two
SOURCE - http://www.ign.com/boards/threads/ha...ode.453586101/

The Wii U is getting slaughtered in Europe, but it somehow managed to beat the PS4 in the North America. I don't know how of a difference it makes though

They could try removing the expensive tablet controller and going for a regular controller. Should drop the price.

The tablet being optional sounds decent. I can see another 50 price drop helping sales, but even then, it's all about the games.
