Save data lost, I don't think it's a dead battery

hello, I played some Super Mario World on my Snes (got it from ebay a month ago), I was in the fifth world, when the console had suddenly glitched, and the screen became full of different color squares (I may have touched the console, but I'm not sure, It didn't fell or anything like that.)
when I reset my console, all my data on Super Mario World was gone.

I read online, and it said that my battery may have died.
the thing is, now the game works like it should, I can save the game, and my data won't be deleted, I even took the cartridge and shook it for a bit, because I thought maybe the battery is loose, but still, the save data wasn't gone.
so I have no idea what happened, and I don't know what's wrong with my cartidge, I don't know if I should start playing the game again, because I'm afraid the save data will suddenly be deleted again.
can someone help me? thank you.

I had a similar problem with Secret of Mana..i opened the cartridge out of curiosity, because it was a bit loose and jiggly and after i put it back together my data was gone and it stopped saving.I left it like that over night and the next day i still had no data but i could save again..i have no idea why this happened. In your case..most probably the glitch caused the erasing of the data,i'd advise you to clean the cartridge and try again ;]
