Prayer, Does It Really Work?

Fido: Oh give me some Kibble Bits. Amen.

Will you pray for me?" "I'll be praying for you." "Let's pray about it."

You have no doubt heard or spoken statements like this many hundreds, or even thousands, of times in your life.

There is perhaps no practice that is more universal than the act of prayer.
We even find people that are unsaved turning to the Lord in prayer in times of distress.

It is important for believers to understand what prayer is and how it works in the age in which we live.

We don't want to be like most of the world that just throws up a prayer in a time of distress and waits for God to bail them out of a mess.

But what does "prayer" actually accomplish or better yet,
the act of "praying"?

Do we get a better understanding of our situations,
and problems by simply kneeling down or bowing our heads to pray?

Do we get the things, the wishes, the blessings we ask?

Does Prayer Work???

In Marvman's opinion....

YES.
It gives us hope.

What is your view on "prayer"?

It's nice to finally know what Marv looks like. Are those Batman PJs?

For me, I honestly don't think it works unless you believe it will. It's sort of like a mental thing, where it seems as though something happens because you believed it would. Like when you take a Placebo and don't know it. Your body reacts as though it took the real thing.

I don't see prayer as a way to get things fixed or get what you want. I see it as a conversation with God. Just another person to talk too. I also don't believe in telling people you will pray for them or asking people to pray for you. I see that as showing off that you are praying, and in the bible it says to "But whenever you pray, go into your room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret."

Yes, it definitely works. Zero prays nearly everyday and feels that it makes a difference.

Nah. I hate how people treat good things like "Oh thank God!"
But they treat bad things like "It was God's will..."
You never can win when arguing against prayer...
So I offer this question:

If amputees pray really hard, will God give 'em their legs back?

I mean, He makes people's cancer go into remission and helped the Red Sox win the World Series...

What about the amputees?

It may be comforting to people, but being realistic here, I don't think it does anything. In fact I think you can put too much hope on a prayer, and then possibly get crushed when something doesn't happen. But you never know I guess... Also this is coming from an agnostic.

I pray, But like if you pray to become rich, Chances are it wont happen. You have a chance to become rich. Praying is a way to communicate with god, He cant really grant every wish but he can give everyone a chance to get what they pray for and praying gives people hope like if someone is dying... but not if its like 'I pray that I can have the force'
