Jailbreak: Source

If anyone gets the chance to play a really great Source mod, it should be Jailbreak: Source. I'm a beta tester for it and a clan leader. I've been playing since May and a new version is about to come out, which I'm totally excited about.

I'm bumping this thread after five months just to express how disappointed I am that the new version of this sweet mod isn't out yet. We ran into a problem with the engine and converted everything to the Orange Box, which means we're skipping 0.5 and moving straight to 0.6. Also, the servers are down to save some money.

It's still probably the most fun mod I've ever played, and it's the only PC game I play. The community is great and reminds me of the one we have here. If you haven't checked this mod out yet, you should. I'll let you all know when the servers come back up.

It's free. Not open source as it has a dev team, but they often take people's contributions, including maps, skins, music, and the like. Source is Valve's development engine. Half Life 2 runs on Source, for example. The Orange Box is another development engine, which is what Jailbreak is moving on to. The current version, 0.4.1, runs on Source. So if you have HL2 or other Source games, you can play Jailbreak for free. The next version, 0.6, will be running on the Orange Box, so if you have any OB games, you'll be able to play the new version for free.

Just wondering...there used to be a mod for Quake 3 Arena, called Jailbreak. Could this be the same team? Did they switch engines later on? This looks pretty cool.

Different team. The Jailbreak concept actually started on Quake 2 and some of the original members have been in touch with this team, although they didn't contribute much.

We've made the Source version so different, though. Try it out and see if you like it. 0.6 is nearing completion. We're trying to figure out a new escape rule, and we can't seem to agree on it, but that's really the biggest thing in the way now.
