The DEATH Penalty

Now.. one of the more controversial topics.. The death penalty..

... Do you think it is right?

On one hand, it is dealing punishment to those whom commit acts of outrageous sins...

On the other, its depriving a mother of their beloved child...

So what do you think?

Personally, i am very much for it.. Normally, as a liberal, id oppose such things, but this is something i stick to.. just like a virus or cancerous cell in your body, you destroy those who are a hinderance to society should be punished... why spend money on such sick people to house them, when you could use that money to help those free of sin?...

... Go on.. discuss..

On one hand, what these people do (murderers, and the like) is horribly, horribly wrong, and unforgivable. Why should they, a criminal, get to live, while an innocent person lost their live? It's just not right.

On the other hand, no matter what somebody does, I can't stand the thought of killing that person. Killing just doesn't sit well with me, and goes against my morals. Two wrongs don't make a right, after all.

So yeah, I'm torn. >_>

Just a question, how much money is spent on prison inmates?

I think it is bad! If you kill a murderer that would make you just like them. They should just go to jail for 280 years.

.. thats a good question, actually.. i should research that in a few minutes...

...

ive always viewed this situation in a cold, almost heartless manner... when thinking of it, i think of the murderers and rapists as "broken pieces".... flaws...
... perhaps that contributes to my thoughts?..

I agree, I really don't know either. If I had to come up with a final decision, I'd probably say let them live, I mean it just seems like the humane thing to do.

I love the death penalty. I just don't like how it's being done with that expensive syringe and all. Can't we just drop these guys off a tall building or something? You know, something that doesn't cost money?

By the way, here's some nice cost figures from Florida. $19,000 per year, per person, in tax money. If someone gets a ten year sentence, thats $190,000 of your taxes that could go to renovating a school, for one person. A bullet costs less than a dollar.

As for the "humane" thing, put it this way: Did they care about doing the "humane" thing when they killed your brother? Raped your sister? Chances are, they didn't. I saw use the death penalty more often, and for more crimes.

After all, if it's used often enough, maybe people will think twice about committing crimes.

.. agreed...

.. i think the death should fit the punishment.. if whatever you commited was instant... you get an instant death... if it was drawn out (like rape).. a slower death is more fitting..

...
id even go as far to say that we should use these people for experimentation..

Experimentation, or forced labor. My only hesitation is that we'll be seen as barbaric by other countries. I think a quick bullet will do.

Screw them. Yes, we're depriving a mother of their child, but what about the people they kill? I say, Kill them.
