Freezing GameCube

Hi,

A few weeks ago, I bought a second-hand GameCube. The first two or three days, it worked like a charm, but while I was playing Windwaker and opened a door, the game suddenly froze and an error message (which yields no results on google) appeared.

After this, other games started freezing as well. Some games freeze seemingly randomly, while others freeze at the same place every time I try.

Since all games worked flawlessly the first day, and the freezing occurs with more than one game, I exclude the reason that the discs might be dirty or damaged. I have tried both with and without memory card with no result. I have also tried to clean the lens several time, but the freezes still occur.

A few games, though, never freeze (as far as I've experienced).

Of course, the GameCube doesn't use a modifier chip or similar.

If anyone could help me with resolving this, or at least help me point out what's causing this, I would be truly grateful!

I would say the answer is quite simple, it's broken, who ever had it before you didn't take very good care of it, my mate didn't look after his Cube and now his doesn't work at all, I've had my Gamecube since 2002 and it still works perfectly. ^_^

If I find any useful infomation I'll let you know. =)

Why don't you just buy a wii and play the cube games on there, that way you can play wii games too! And of course VC and wiiware.

Happens to me too from time to time. I got mine when it first came out though, so I assume it's because it's old. Never used to do that unless the CD was dirty but it's the system now. It doesn't do that when I play Game Cube on Wii.

My friend overdid something and it froze. And it is an old gamecube. But still works perfectly fine.

Mine has problem reading even slighly dirty GC disks. And it's brand new.

I hate to break it to you, but Nintendo stopped making brand new Gamecubes quite some time ago.

Yeah so you best opinion is to play your game cube games on the wii or try again on getting a new GC but that's up to you.
