Sm Mario Nintendo WILL survive

The year is 1985. Nintendo has saved the video game market in America. Kids are jumping on mushrooms. All is right in the world.

And now, the year 2008? Nintendo is winning the 7th generation console war. Kids are still jumping on mushrooms. All is right in the world.

Nintendo was founded on making playable cards in 1889. Through the years they made different things, until one day they stumbled on video games. Thanks to Atari, video games were making it big in America. Nintendo sent over Donkey Kong, and the rest is history. Jumpman was declared, however, a novelty, with the real show stopper being the gorilla. In time, things would be different. Much different.

The video game crash, the flooding of games into the market, and other factors meant video games were finished. Stores, who to them video games were nothing but a fad, were spectical when the NES hit shores.

And then it was Mario. The NES saved the video game market. Sega challenged the mighty, but could not match it. Nintendo were heroes.

The Genesis, the next enemy of Nintendo, came to town. Nintendo's SNES, with Super Mario World, among others, were pit against Sonic. Once again, Nintendo was challenged, and came off best with great games that continued their reign over America and Japan (Brazil wasn't so lucky).

Then the Game Boy and the Game Gear waged war, with Nintendo once again on top. Tetris, the pack-in game, became the second best selling game of all time. (Although might become third to Wii Sports at this rate). Tetris's addictive gameplay, Super Mario Land and the late Pokemon Saga made the Game Boy the best selling console at the time, and my personal favourite. Nintendo has lead the portable gaming market ever since.

Then, they stumbled. The Playstation, which used disks compared to cartridges, caught the attention of many third-party companies, including final fantasy, among others. The Nintendo 64, although it hosted Ocarina of time and Super Mario 64, came second fiddle.

Game Boy Colour and Advance, however, completely controlled the market with a 98% market share in the Fifth and sixth generation portable market respectively. remakes of the NES classics, Mario remakes and the continuing Pokemon,Zelda and Metroid sagas controlled the market. Around this time, Sega, once the greatest thread to Nintendo, dropped out of the race. Nintendo was to become, in the next generation, last place

Then the GameCube, which in my opinion was a flop compared to others(except the Virtual Boy) came out. It had some Ok titles, but the days of surpremacy were long-gone. The portable game market, although completely controlled by Nintendo, looked bad when a technicall superior PSP arrived on the scene. Were the saviours of the video game going to be a background noise to a Sony-led industry?

It was then, that Nintendo did what Sega couldn't. It fought back and won, in style.

First off, it changed the name pf their next console from the codename, which was Revolution to the Wii. This strange name got great coverage in America news, which meat that they effectively got one night of free advertising to millions. It then employed an entirely different approach to their competitiors, and bolstered their famous franchises Mario, Zelda and Metroid into 3 great games: Super Mario Galaxy, Twilight Princess and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Add Smash Bros., a pack in Wii sports game, Mario Kart and you have 1st place in the next generation console war.

The Nintendo DS, with partial backwards-compatability and a headstart in library, plus better games and franchises, also repelled the PSP. Nintendo was back on top, with Sony in last place. And they were loving it.

So when people say Nintendo is gone, I simply shake my head. Nintendo WILL survive because of its exclusive franchises, its great minds and its ability. Nintendo owned back then, it owns now, and when they call for the next generation, Mario, Link, Pokemon and others will answer it. Nintendo IS the future of video games. And......

Revolution was a code-name for the Wii. It was never the official name. Similarly, Dolphin was the code-name for the Gamecube.

Mhmm!
I agree with you segaslayer.

Nintendo's unique 'blue ocean'view of the market will keep them going strong.

@op98x
Revolution I understand...

But..Dolphin?...guess they codenamed it for the color..?

I think it has something to do with the fact that dolphins are both very intelligent and very playful. But I don't know.

Yeah Nintendo will never die, especially because of the casual market they picked up. I don't really think GameCube was a flop, It had a lot of good games IMO.
