Wii-key

Im quite keen to get one of these, just so I can play DVDs on my Wii.

That right - you can play DVDs on your Wii if you mod it.

I have a 2 year warranty on my Wii, so I dont really want to void it though.

Is it plain DVD, or does it support HD-DVD and Blu-Ray?

Just plain DVD.

I wish it supported Blu-Ray.. That would be awesome.

They are completely different lasers and discs. Blu-Ray uses a special blue laser.
