Midway Games, Selling Mortal Kombat!?

Troubled Publisher Looking To End 17 Year Relationship.

Midway filed for bankruptcy last month, and recently handed publishing duties for forthcoming title The Wheelman over to Ubisoft. Now Mortal Kombat may be put out to tender, with the successful sale of the franchise seemingly imperative to rescuing the Chicago based developer – as well as acting as a milestone that would tie in with significant bonus payouts for "officers, management-level employees and other non-insider key employees," as reported on netDockets.

These bonus payouts – amounting to some $3,755,000 – would come against the backdrop of laid off staff having promised monies withheld, as reported by Kotaku.
Shock, horror, what now?

I honestly could care less about this franchise. They could cancel it for all I care.

Well, if they sell it to a decent company, such as Capcom, this may be great news for the MK franchise. Unfortunately, they'll probably sell it to THQ or something.

For a person who grew on the ideal that MK was SF for grown ups, It is sad to see Midway in this state. MK2 was like chess is to some, that game that people always play but you were the best at and everyone wanted to challenge you. I took personal joy in beating my brother on the genesis port when he was genesis king and I was Nintendo's #1 bitch.

But, as with Sonic, things take a turn for the worst and now, I think the franchise should say its final goodbyes. There are better fighting games such as Soul Calibur, SSB and SF4 so, in my opinion, MK should go now, before things get a little stale.

And Link's Final Smash is better than ANY fatality.

FINALLY! This needed to happen. Mortal Kombat is my favorite franchise, and even though I don't have anyone to play Armageddon with me (girlfriend won't play and the game doesn't go online), I still can't bring myself to sell the game.

Even though I love MK, I think Midway has done just about all they can do with the franchise. I say sell it to someone else and see what they can do with it. Give another developer a chance to breathe some new life into one of the oldest active franchises.

...and force Rare to come out with a this-gen Killer Instinct on the Wii.

qft.

I love this franchise, and MK2 was the apple of my eye in year 7. I simply love it, especialy because I love story and plot in a game and this was the only fighting game that offered it to me.

Saying that though, talk about repetitive. All they can do now is create a BIGGER evil every now and then and then side games like the recent MKvDC. I'm glad to see it go, but sad to see it go.

Down Forward Back Back Blue. ♥
