Enterbrain put cumulative sales of the DSi machine at 170,779 units as of Sunday, two days after the launch on Saturday. Including reservations, the DSi machines are believed to have vanished from Japan's store shelves by Tuesday.

The report was based on sales data at 3,500 retailers across the country.

Nintendo, which shipped 200,000 units across the country, plans to ship an additional 100,000 units by the end of this week.

The DSi, which retails for 18,900 yen, features improved audio quality and a screen that is larger than that of the existing DS model. It allows users to take pictures and play music.

The DSi will be launched overseas next spring at the earliest.
Success?

By success if you mean how much it sold, then yes. But how much people would actually like it, no. People only liked the camera, internet, music player, etc. and bought it. I bet you a 1,000,000 yen that is the only reason.

Bigger screen, better sound, thinner, surface that doesn't get annoying fingerprints, just to keep up with the latest technology.

Edit: internal memory, sd card compatible, more ram, faster processor.

While you're entitled to your own opinion, I think I've read it enough times.

I picked up my DSi on the release date, and I think it's great. I'm pretty excited about the internal memory, SD card support, more ram, and faster processor; once games come out that actually make use of those things you will notice a significant jump in the quality of DS games. The camera is a fun novelty, and I could care less about the music player, but I'm really interested in the posibility of classic gameboy games a la Wii's Virtual Console.

You just like to moan and complain about the camera, so speak for yourself. Only a handful of people seem to dislike it, not EVERYONE like you consistently claim. In my eyes the camera is the least significant upgrade.
