Odd traditions/things about games.

For starters, it's always gotten me about bosses how they continue to use the same attack patterns even though you've studied it and figured out how to counter it. I wonder why? Any other general things about games that are weird like that?

I get annoyed about the fact that consoles have RESET and POWER buttons. It only needs one... Let's face it. On the Wii, no-one uses the RESET button anyway.

The only time anyone presses START, is to stop the game.

EDIT: I made a thread similar to this, but I'll let it slide.

I use reset all the time. Behold the power of Fire Emblem.

But I always thought the bottomless pit tradition in platformers was kind of weird. I mean, maybe there's bottomless pits in the Mushroom Kingdom, but how many other games need bottomless pits?

Isn't the start button specifically for starting or pausing on ANY console?

I think it's stupid how sometimes on games if you go close to an enemy or something that can kill you, but don't touch it, it still classes as you being hit.

They're simple to program; why waste time on water graphics and textures (or whatever), when you can just have a plain black hole that triggers a restart when touched?

This is a guess – just putting something out there.

EDIT: Of course, the grievance about bothering with more complex graphics and textures is only applicable to more recent platformers. Water was not exactly advanced in the '80s.

Its obvious, they aren't bottomless, for example in the Mushroom Kingdom they are pits filled with Hungry Goombas. In Mega Man it is rabbid Mets. Sonic...its piles of his sucky games that he is forced to play.
