Question Should the Saturn have sold better

Since we had a thread like this for GC, I thought why not have one for one of the most under-appreciated consoles ever, I'm talking of course of the Sega Saturn.

For those who Don't know, the Sega Saturn was one of the three main consoles in the late 90's battle of N64 & PS, yes, there was many swings and miss consoles like 3do or Jaguar, but the Saturn was there from 1994 - 1999.
The saturn was released first for this war, the war between Genesis and the Snes was coming to an end and of course the genesis was winning until they threw in some add-ons. (See SegaSlayer33's review for more details) the 32X wasn't so bad but they were already planning the saturn, too many consoles.

But asides from the late Genesis Screw-ups, Saturn came out ahead of it's competitor the N64, but then comes the Stupid Ps1(Pure opinion)... this really bothers me, so many companies wanted a hand in gaming, and they all failed, but now sony comes in and everyones crazy about the Ps1

Back to my point, sega saturn comes out, what a week before Ps1 stomps in? The saturn was your ordinary consols with a very good game library of Arcade ports and it's own games... It had many good games, plus it boasted more accesories(arcade controller, etc.) than PS1 or N64 but why did no one want a Saturn, I was young but my brothers wanted a saturn, of course we got a gift of an N64 in 98' but that's a different story.

I don't know where I'm going with this right now but my point is, Ssturn had Just as many, If not more good games than Ps1 and N64, plus many arcade hits... Discus...

Well obviously, it wasn't very good, or it would have sold far better than it did. Nintendo was already established, and Sony was a major company before they got into gaming. The Sega Genesis to me was the better console.

This has nothing to do with Nintendo or Sony's success or their fans, this has to do with Sega's inability to succeed with a console, and their failure.

If it was really that good to other people, it would have sold much better. Makes perfect sense to me.

I can remember what RPG it was, an RPG on the saturn, everyone I know says it was better than FF7, Gamespot also says it was better than FF7, it obviously has more to do with the fact that people just didn't give saturn one chance because of the Sega CD & 32X.

the Saturn was huge in Japan. it only failed in America.

it all had to do with Sega's marketing to western gamers. the Saturn simply wasn't a console that many americans were interested in, due both to its library and its style

That might be the problem it had in America then. We're kind of more demanding when it comes to games.
