Wii trumps Xbox 360, PS3 in repair-rate survey

Wii trumps Xbox 360, PS3 in repair-rate survey

A new survey of warranty claims by 16,000 game-console owners found that Xbox 360s failed for nearly 24 percent of their owners, compared to 10 percent of PlayStation 3s and less than 3 percent of Wii consoles.

Electronics warranty provider SquareTrade released the Survey of failure rates and common problems associated with each console system. The results looked at data from the first two years of ownership, included only normal usage malfunctions and were randomly selected from SquareTrade’s customer database.

While the Xbox 360 failed nearly one in 4 times, its error rate drops to just under 12 percent when the infamous “Red Ring of Death” — a hardware crash signaled by a circular red light around the console’s power button — is excluded from the results. However, the survey points out that the RROD error is widely known to be covered by the Microsoft warranty and may not have been reported to SquareTrade. With that in mind, the warranty provider said the Xbox 360 failure rate could be as high as 35 percent.
The data also shows that the quality of Xbox 360 consoles appears to be improving. Since the third quarter of 2008, fewer problems have shown up.
“I think we’ve made it clear we stand by the quality of our product, and we will make it right by fixing the problem at no extra cost to you,” said Xbox 360 and Xbox Live director of product management Aaron Greenberg in an interview with Gamespot. “But at the same time, we’ve been working hard to make improvements in the products we’re currently making, so I really feel like most of this is well behind us.”

Doesn't matter to me if it's made out of titanium, It has no games worth anything on it really. I don't care for the Wifi either. It's weaker than the other 2, so it would be more reliable due to less chance of it overheating.

I'll take my chances with a more powerful and versatile console.

I'm not surprised. Nintendo has always had the most reliable and durable hardware out there.

Agreed. Nintendo has always had very strong hardware reliability. You almost have to try to break a Nintendo system.

I can actually agree with that. I threw my Wii Remote through a window. I destroyed the window, but the remote was unharmed. That's a testament to it's durability.

It wasn't my fault the window broke, it just slipped. It was a double-paned window too. Quite powerful.

Even so, I'm not too impressed with it's library of games :l

Must be the size of a pea shooter's pellet then. I don't even want to know what their next console can withstand. Probably the end of the world.

Sega and Nintendo are by far the best hardware makers, with the ever so slight edge to Sega. the NES is just problematic, and i've had issues with my GameCube (but nowhere near the level of problems i've experienced with PS2 and Xbox)

Microsoft and Sony's hardware pale in comparison. disc read error and the red ring of death are almost historic plagues really

Sega and Nintendo have the best controllers too

Surprisingly, I've had no problems with my 360...

Well, except for the disc tray being stupid, and the RRoD I had last month. Ok, That just proved the case of it's hardware being faulty. Sega did make awesome hardware too.

Xbox Live Gamertag: deadDEFINED
If they included RROD then XBox would have a failure rate of 9001%, easily. I like my Xbox 360, and I like my Wii, but honestly, the 360 and PS3 are getting the better (more mature) games, while Wii has Cooking Mama and Wii Fit.
