School uniforms???

My friend was telling me that his school was planning to do a thing where everyone had to wear certain clothing and shoes. Of course, then I was saying "Well that sucks" but then recently I watched something on our school news program and this girl was talking about how making students wear uniforms gives them a good opportunity to let their personality shine instead of being judged by how they dress. But anyhoo, how do you feel about school uniforms? Are they needed? Should people be allowed to wear what they want? Do kids really get judged by what they wear?

Be sure to vote in the poll!

I don't agree with them, mostly because I'm a believer in freedom of expression. I know also they have their own uses, but the school shouldn't have to jump in and restrict everyone's apparel.

I think its kind of pointless. My middle school had a dress code. It wasn't so bad. I think we were required to wear a white or blue collared shirt, and pants as long as they weren't jeans. Not being able to wear whatever I wanted didn't really affect me in any way.

^ Most schools have a dress code from what I've seen. I consider a Uniform a very strict dress code. One that isn't needed at all. What you've described works fine to me.

My school has a uniform, white or burgandy polo or buttoned shirt and khaki pants. (no jeans) Tucking in your shirt is the worst part though, I hate doing that. It really sucks to, its a terrible thing really, its used because idiots have no self control and wear bad stuff. It was used to prevent girls from dressing slutty and guys from wearing baggy pants, people still do that though anyways. -.- Its probably also used to give the school and overall, represented look, like an army or a group of communist. Its just another indiotic and unfair way for society and "the man" to control us and make everyone similar. Down with this!!! Anarchy rules!!!

But seriously, they suck, alot. I'm a shy person and they make my overall appearance (that already sucks as it is) less appealing and makes me even more shy. So that personality shining crap is a piece of ****. The discouraged, shy, quiet, unpopular kids will still feel the same way about uniforms.

That doesn't even make sense. How are you more discouraged/shy/quiet if they're wearing pretty much the same thing you are?

He didn't say more, he said they'd be the same no matter what they're wearing or thinking, which does make sense.

One good thing school uniforms have done is no student is judged based on what they wear. With school uniforms its your personality that gets judged.

Because of that I'm going to say yes to uniforms and yes I wear uniforms myself.

^ What someone wears isn't going to deter a bully from picking on someone. They have other things, like the way their face looks, their size, their hair, and all kinds of physical aspects. Sure, having differentiating clothes can add fuel to the fire sometimes, but even if you take that option away, there's still more than enough fuel to feed the fire, which is why I find it pointless.
