"Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, doubting, fearing..."

This thread is about Eternal Darkness in case you didn't catch the Poe quote, which opens this unique game. If you've never played it, it's pretty cheap now, and though not one of the best games I've played(far from it inf act) it's still a unique experience that I feel, given a bit more development time and polish, could have been amazing. some argue that it is amazing still. The thing I like about this game is that it's a horror game that is actually scary. Many horror games now involve more kick ass action sequences than actual horror elements, but Eternal Darkness ACTUALLY made me jump now and then. What do you guys make of this Gamecube exclusive?

You don't have very good taste in games, do you? :P

Eternal Darkness is awesome. Unfortunately I never got very far because I always ended up playing something else, but from what I played it was a very fun, intriguing experience with a lot of polish and shine. There's a reason it's one of the most highly rated NGC games. The graphics in particular are very impressive/

That depends. some of the graphics are very polished, while in other areas, things seem rushed, and rigid.

Same with me, da beef. I love the atmosphere, and the story kept me playing, although I never finished it...I was on the next to last chapter when I stopped.

It's a good, solid game with great design. Unfortunately it could have used a lot of polish.

The thing is, though, that I was too distracted while playing to actually care; it wasn't until afterwards that I thought back about my experience and started picking out the little faults.

Overall, a good, solid game that everyone should experience. It's sanity meter system is something that remains unique to this day, and the first time I walked through that mansion alone after playing as another character, there was a time when I jumped. The fact that a game caught be completely off my guard without employing cheap gimmicks such as things suddenly popping up on the screen and scaring you.

Some of the ideas were a little lame. I mean, telling you to plug your controller back in? Once you've seen it once, it's lame. And it's more of an inconvenience than anything else. Or when you enter a room and something happens (not mentioned for spoilers) and suddenly you rewind and enter the room again; these things aren't scary so much as they are annoying. But still, a quality game with some great ideas, even if they weren't executed as well as they could have been all the time.
