How do you feel about the Prime series?

I've been reading a lot of people's opinions about Metroid lately. I'm mostly interested in what people are looking forward to in Metroid 5, their ideas for it, etc. I've come across a lot of discussions about what makes a good Metroid game this way (note: everyone is an idiot so far) and to my infinite displeasure, I've found many "hardcore" Metroid "fans" claim they consider the Prime series to be something of a gaiden; they don't consider it to be part of the official story and, as far as canon is concerned, they ignore the Prime series.

Now the Prime series isn't as good as Metroid 1 or 3, for sure, but I would take Corruption or Prime 1 over Fusion in many cases.

So what do you guys think about the Prime series in terms of the Metroid franchise as a whole? Like it more, less, or do you have a neutral opinion of it, liking some things better and some things worse?

You won't hurt my feelings if you say you like the side-scrollers more, so don't worry about that. You will, however, upset me if you say you just pretend those four Prime games don't exist at all.

I love the Prime series. It gave the whole franchise a new perspective, which brought many new gamers into the Metroid fanbase.

I liked the side-scrolling games more so, but the Prime quadrilogy (not a word, but it sounds funny) are very fun. Although the storyline throughout is set apart, and doesn't contribute much to the main Metroid plot, the games are a worthy addition to the story's entirety.

I love it and can't wait to get the Trilogy for Christmas. I also want Other M after seeing the trailer for it! It looks freakin' awesome!

I love both the side scrollers and the Prime series, so I wouldn't mind which one they go with personally

prime series was fantastic.

a lil repetitive.but great.

personally i hate 1st person shooter games like halo and call of duty n stuff like that

but these games.......
they are the best

I've told you my opinion before. 1 is the best, 2 is good, but too annoying for my tastes, and I found 3 too easy.

Well, that tells me about 3 of the 4 games, but how do you feel about the series as a whole? How do you feel about it in comparison to the other Metroid games?

yeah, left out Hunters. i hated the single player, but i enjoyed the multiplayer...well, until everyone started cheating, anyway.

As far as the whole series goes, it was a very nice series, and effectively brought Metroid into 3d. i think it's one of the definitive series/trilogies of the generation.

Ive only played corruption so far, but i hope to get the trilogy for christmas. But as far as the whole franchise goes, great move. Metroid, being the only first party FPS series for nintendo, did it perfectly to combine the two genres it encompases. I wouldnt mind seeing another installment to the series. The sidescrolers are great, but nintendo makes enough of them (no complaints though, my favorite genre).

Metroid is not the only first-person Nintendo game; you're forgetting Geist.
