Activision Closes RedOctane&Underground Studios

Quote:
February 12, 2010 - Activision has confirmed reports this afternoon on the closing of Underground Studio, who last developed Guitar Hero: Van Halen. The company is also reportedly shuttering RedOctane, hardware developers on the Guitar Hero series.

"I can confirm that as part of our overall strategy to release fewer Guitar Hero SKUs in 2010, we are closing the Underground Studio and relocating the Guitar Hero headquarters to Santa Monica under the leadership of David Haddad," an Activision spokesperson said in a statement given to IGN.

Activision would not, however, confirm that the company has shuttered RedOctane. A report from Kotaku says the company has been completely shut down, with only a few of its top employees now reporting directly to Activision.

This news comes a day after Activision made cuts to both Neversoft and Radical Entrainment. The company also confirmed the closing of development studio Luxoflux.

I makes me really sad that they put 30-40 people out of jobs... That's all I have to say
Also, it's starting to look like they're depending on Call of Duty for their sucess now

It doesn't surprise me really. So many companies are laying people off.

And Guitar Hero isn't really an amazing game. They did this to themselves. I'm still sad to see people lose their jobs though. :\ Maybe Harmonics will take them in.
