Diddy Kong Racing: Coin Races Good or Bad?

Lately, I've been picking up on this game and I've been playing it on an emulator for online but also because I hated and always hated these effing coin races. They gave me so much grief as a kid and as a result I didn't beat the game as a kid or ever. I'm good at the game but this just brings the quality down for me, luckily this time I have save states for these god awful races but just post your opinion.

Were the coin races even a good idea in your mind?

Strong HELL NO!! for me

They were annoying as hell. Some of the Silver Coins were placed way out of the way to where you would have to go way offtrack just to grab them and continue racing. AND you had to still win 1st place. And what was your reward? A rematch with an annoying boss who was already cheap the first time.

They are way too annoying. Like GameBoy said, they were always hid in faraway places that would almost guarantee making your lose first place. The space levels were the biggest offenders, in my opinion. Wizpig was hard as hell the first time, and I couldn't get to him the second time because I just gave up.

Actually, the Wizpig is much easier to defeat the second time than he is the first.

Now imagine this without an emulator, Cam, which means no save states.

........ did I miss saying something, lol.

This game gave me grief as a child and to date because of the coin challenges on the n64 version on the actual cartidge ... Other than the coin challenges I love the game I prefer the ds version because of this though... Well, mainly...

The computer is also easier because I have a controller in which the joystick actually reverts to the center position and doesn't require force to make sharp turns

Siberianhusky89 We have a Nintendo Fan in the Making

I would have liked them, if they didn't design them to be so gay. I mean, you have to drive 30 feet away from where you are or in the most ridiculous areas to obtain them where you can crash easily and lose. So they could have been good if they didn't exaggerate the hardness of getting them by tossing them in between 2 trees that lead to a ledge if you don't curve right and so on.

funny this thread was just brought back up since I've been playing this game non stop for the past week (onto very end of adventure 1). To be honest now, if you know the drift system of this game then it isn't that hard to do the coin races. Still though, one like Greenwood village are terrible.

Rupleteaser is an unknown quantity at this point

I think it's a good idea to add challenge, however it was executed really badly. I've never been able to get past all 4 of them in one level. Luckly, my cartridge was pre-owned so I already have access to the space levels in time trial and multiplayer.

we rented this all the time when I was a kid, only once did it already have the space levels and it was amazing.

'd like to point out that I hate these in mirror mode again, trying to get through it with my buddy and the placement has gotten 5 times worse. Jungle falls was the worse, there were at least 4 coins right in front of water in the worst spot and there was another where you had to have 2 boosts to get it in midair above water then make 2 sharp turns to keep pace...

They weren't bad in adventure 1 but in adventure 2, just forget about it.
