Remember?

Do you remember when video-games could be challenging and not be criticized for being "too tough for today's gamer"?

Do you remember when a game could not succeed with excellent graphics alone? Games needed good gameplay, music, and challenge, too.

Do you remember when 3D graphics were just a legend?

Do you remember when Sonic the Hedgehog was the fastest mascot around, rather than a poor little rodent struggling to reclaim his fame?

Do you remember when GameFAQs and IGN didn't exist? Back then, if you needed help for a game, you either had to ask your friends or buy those massive, dusty Player's Guides Wal-Mart used to sell.

Do you remember when video-games were not part of mainstream culture?

Do you remember when arcades weren't just limited to the back corners of movie theatres and laundromats? Do you remember paying money to play Mortal Kombat and then losing in Round 1 because you didn't know how to play?

Do you remember when lousy movie-based games were the exception rather than the rule?

This is what I remember.

Do you remember when video-games could be challenging and not be criticized for being "too tough for today's gamer"?

Unless you're talking about games like Contra and Ghosts and Goblins, I've really never heard of or played a game that was "too hard."

Do you remember when a game could not succeed with excellent graphics alone? Games needed good gameplay, music, and challenge, too.

Hell yes. Super Mario Bros.

Do you remember when 3D graphics were just a legend?

I remember when they weren't the norm, but SNES introduced 2.5D games, which were pretty cool.

Do you remember when Sonic the Hedgehog was the fastest mascot around, rather than a poor little rodent struggling to reclaim his fame?

Blame SEGA for screwing up three games in a row.

Do you remember when GameFAQs and IGN didn't exist? Back then, if you needed help for a game, you either had to ask your friends or buy those massive, dusty Player's Guides Wal-Mart used to sell.

I still have a lot of the Prima Official Guides in my house.

Do you remember when video-games were not part of mainstream culture?

They still aren't, unless they are the super dooper casual games like Wii Fit.

Do you remember when arcades weren't just limited to the back corners of movie theatres and laundromats? Do you remember paying money to play Mortal Kombat and then losing in Round 1 because you didn't know how to play?

Hell yeah! Those were the times.

Do you remember when lousy movie-based games were the exception rather than the rule?

E.T. sure proved that!

This is what I remember.

I do blame Sega.
And those were indeed, the good times.

I remember it alright. It's a bitter thing to remember. Gaming will never be the same as it was then.

I just recently got addicted to one of my Sonic mega collections.
The difficulty there is impossible!

Truer words have never been spoken. At least gaming-wise.
