How do you save games on the Super Nintendo?

Basically, my mate has bought an old school SNES and loads of games. She can only save super mario games! and i couldn't remember if saving games was possible, did we just leave the computer on pause? any SNES fans out there with an answer?

If the game lets you save, and not all do, then there will be some sort of option to save. It will be pretty obvious.

If it doesn't let you save, then you're just out of luck.

Also note that some games save automatically. I'm mostly talking about sports games here that have an option for playing a season. Those save the season after you finish a game.

In retrospect, it's hard to believe that some SNES games couldn't be saved.

I'm not sure how exactly games work, but I think lack of space might be a reason. Games like SMB3, a very robust NES title, might have just not had enough room to dedicate to a save file.

That's just speculation and I have no idea if that is true or not, though.

It is sort of annoying how Super Street Fighter II doesn't save my high scores.

It's annoying that anything will go through the effort of having me put my initials in and it doesn't save the score. What's the point if even doing that?

I can understand more with something like Street Fighter since it's an arcade port and having that in there makes it more true to the original.

But Tetris for Game Boy has high score too. Why?

I think he might mean just pausing the game and leaving the machine on over night, but that means obviously you are unable to play any other game for a while,on emulators like Zsnew you may be able to `save state` which saves the game at the exact point.
