Guitar Hero is finally axed

Quote:
Today Activision Blizzard announced that it will "disband Activision Publishing's Guitar Hero business unit" due to the declining interest in the music genre. The company has ceased development on its previously planned 2011 Guitar Hero game.

Additionally, Activision has stopped production on True Crime: Hong Kong. The future of the franchise is unknown. On an earnings call today, an Activision representative said True Crime had been canceled because it "just wasn't going to be good enough."

Although the Guitar Hero business unit at Activision is being shuttered, company executives left the door open for a return in the future, saying the brand would need to be "re-assessed" going forward.

The decision to scrap/halt these franchises was attributed to the "desire to focus on the greatest opportunities that the company currently has to create the world's best interactive entertainment experiences."

There are also rumors circulating via Twitter from a BioWare employee that Freestyle Games, the developer of DJ Hero, was also hit with layoffs. However, it's still unclear whether or not that franchise has also been dropped from Activision's lineup.

We have reached out to Activision for comment and will update this story as soon as we receive it

FUN FACT: Kotnick did this to make more Call of Duty games!

You mean it wasn't already?

I'd like to think this might affect Activision, but I know that's not gonna happen. Blizzard will more than make up for that loss when Diablo III and Heart of the Swarm hit.

Yep you can only go on making the same game over and over. Not sad about this latest development.

I like it. This makes me sad. Of course, we would get everything when we could get it cheaper and used.

LolGames4U is an unknown quantity at this point

Good. This genre was overrun with too many options. And music games are just stupid. I'm a musician myself and they do nothing; it's nothing like the real thing at all! Except for dancing games. Those are fun, but considered a different genre.

Who even played Gutair hero anymore anyway?
I didn't even know that the new one came out till i found out about this from a friend on Deviantart a few days ago.
It was cool a few years ago, but now people care too much about their online FPS games so they decided that's where the money is at.
And now COD is going to get worse than it already is.

Finally. The whole Hero series was cannibalizing the music genre, in my honest opinion.
