Memories

I love a good story, especially true stories, and even more especially old gaming stories. My favorites are people's first tie with systems and such. Let's share some memories with one another! Don't be scared to go into details. Make it long! It's better that way.

I'll start with the story of how I first got into gaming. I lived here in this exact same house, with my mother, my two uncles, and my grandparents. I was about five or six, and my uncles had an NES. they had several games, but they only ever let me play one, nor was I interested in the others. That game was Duck Hunt. I got pretty good at it for my age, and sometimes even beat my uncles' high scores. About a year and a half ago, one of my uncles found a box in his attic. It had that NES in it, as well as bunch of his old games and his wife's old games as well. He called me and asked if I wanted it. Now, the very same system that I first played sits on m shelf. Sometimes, when I get the itch, I still plug it up to play some Duck Hunt.

I wish I could make that particular story longer, but that's really all there is to it.

I didn't really get into gaming until I was about 6 or 7 when Super Smash Bros. came out. My brother and I shared an SNES with Street Fighter II, Mario Kart, etc., and needless to say, I hardly got to play it much. >< We shared the N64 as well, but with two controllers I got to play it more often and have been hooked on gaming ever since. I believe our first games were SSB, Pokemon Stadium, Kirby 64, and Super Mario 64. My own first console was a Game Boy Color with Pokemon Blue, I remember dropping my GBC twice after opening it from being so excited lol.

I still have the SNES in my room and my GBC is being tormented by my two sisters, but they're still around. My Dad sold the N64 from my brother's misconduct in school, but luckily my aunt picked up an N64 and Sega Game Gear at a garage sale a few years back with a bunch of games. Awesome indeed.

I got into gaming thanks to this game:

Although I was terrible at it, it was fun. It was simple, yet challenging. There's really nothing for me to say beyond that.

This is copy-pasted from another thread i posted it in some time ago, but...

You guys have probably noticed I make a lot of topics in the Gamecube section. Heck, the word "Gamecube" even makes up the majority of my screen name. I'm sure the Gamecube has fans/enthusiasts besides me, but it's one of those systems that just didn't sell well because it was considered "childish" and because "OH MAH GAWD DA GRAFFIX!!111!1!"(even though the graphics were actually way better than the ps2, and the lighting effects could compete with those found on the xbox). I'm sure all Gamecube fans have a reason for loving it so. I have many, and I decided I wanted to write about why. I was going to go to Retrojunk until I realized that Gamecube, being released in 2001 isn't technically retro, and therefore doesn't really fit in there.

I first began my gaming career with nintendo on my uncles NES, playing Duck hunt as often as he would let me. I didn't own a system myself until the PS1 came out. Of course, since I had the ps1, I was a bit of a sony fan at the time, though, at that age, brand didn't matter to me. I had played my cousins N64 a bit, but barely at all. When the PS2 came out, I was ecstatic and couldn't wait to get my hands on it, and soon enough I did, and I thought it was a pretty good system then, although it is now one of my least favorites. The only Nintendo system I owned and played regularly was my Gameboy Color.

Anyway, I went over to my friend Andy's house, and his sole current gen(at that time) console was the Gamecube. He called over another friend and we all sat down with controllers in our hands, and he turned on the power. We were greeted by that charming little tune that plays as the logo literally unfolds on the screen, and soon, I was playing a game I'd never even heard of called Super smash Bros. Melee. At the time, I didn't bother with sites such as GameFAQs of Cheat Code Central, nor was I subscribed to any magazines. I only knew about games others told me about, or that I'd seen or played myself. I was enthralled with the game, even though the only characters I could recognize at the time were Mario and Pikachu. It took me a while to get used to the game's mechanics, but soon I fell in love with it, and decided I wanted a Gamecube the next Christmas.

Well, the next year, I switched schools. I left all my friends behind, and was a little bit scared. When you're 12 years old, these things tend to bother you a lot more. Anyway, I started talking to a guy that sat next to me named Jeffrey. Jeffrey was a very quiet person, and he seemed to be avoiding me, or shrugging me off. He was 2 years older than me, and I thought that maybe he felt like he didn't want to be seen with a little kid or something. The truth, however, was that he was just very introverted. Soon, he started to say simple things to me like "Hey..." and "Ok...", which everyone found strange because Jeffrey just never really said much.

It's funny how the world works sometimes. We soon found out that we were actually cousins(our great grandmothers were sisters) and that he actually only lived about a mile down the road from me. You would've thought we'd met before then, wouldn't you?

Soon, he began riding his bike to my house after school everyday. He always talked about his Nintendo 64 and I was like "You don't have a ps2?!". He actually didn't have a Gamecube yet, either, and was also supposed to be getting one that Christmas. The first time I went over to his house, we played the Nintendo 64, and I was just as enamored with it as I was the Gamecube. This was the moment I was officially converted to Nintendoism.

He showed me the epicness that was Mario and Zelda, and I couldn't thank him enough! Now, I couldn't imagine a Gaming world without nintendo, and it's all thanks to him. Well, later that year, I was n a local parade. His Dad was driving a tractor, a trailer attached loaded with a bunch of kids from our school. Jeffrey and I each walked on opposite sides of the float, and threw candy into the vicious mob that would probably have torn our arms to shreds for a snickers bar. For some reason or another, the parade came to a brief stop. I stood with my arms cross, and my legs a bit parted...little did I know that my left foot was directly in front of one of the trailer's wheels. When we started going again, I felt a strange pressure on my foot. Everything started to move in slow motion for me as I glanced down at the mass of rubber and metal rolling over my foot. It didn't even hurt. i couldn't even FEEL my foot, and I quickly fell backwards. Luckily, a bystander caught me before I hit the ground. Once I was on the ground, THAT'S when the pain started to come on...anyway, I'm diverting from the main topic now. The point is, because of my broken foot, I actually got the Gamecube a month and a half early! YAAAAAY SYMPATHY!

My first game for it was none other than Melee. Jeffrey came over every day after school, and we played the crap out of it. Neither of us knew what characters there were to unlock, and each one was a surprise to us. Through this game, we actually became closer friends. I know that sounds weird, but we did.

A couple weeks later, Jeffrey bought Animal Crossing ahead of time, even though he wouldn't be getting his Gamecube for another 5 weeks. Of course, since I had a gamecube, he just brought it over to my house! We were both instantly hooked on the game, and I swear they made the disc out of some addictive illegal substance, because you just can't stop playing that game.

Needless to say, both Animal Crossing and Melee both hold a special place in my heart as the 2 games that brought me closer to the person who is now one of my best friends.

Well I posted this a long time ago, but I first got into gaming around the age of 8,when I got my very own video game console for the first time, the GBA. The game I got was Samurai Jack: The Amulet of Time. Even though the game didn't get super high ratings or anything, I remember thinking that I liked this style of gameplay (action-adventure), which sparked my interest in Mario, and eventually Castlevania, and Megaman and platform games in general (it also made the genre my favorite).

Some other good things I remember was getting a brand new issue of Game Informer each month and rushing to the back to see the GBA games and what scores they got.
Plus, I can never forget those nights when my sister let me see her FireRed game and since I didn't have the SP, I would have to sneak a flashlight under the covers.

Now I have no idea where my GBA is, but it will always be my favorite VG console of all time.......yeah that's all I got for now!

I'm sort of new to the game. I didn't even know what a video game was until I was about 8 or 9 years old. The very few friends I had didn't play games, either. We were little girls, we played dress-up with Barbies. Even though I didn't play games, I was a huge pokemon fan. I had the cards, the anime on VHS cassettes, and plenty of plushies. Pokemon was my addiction, when people asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I said ever so casually, "A Pokemon Master."

Well, my parents saw a starter pack Nintendo 64 at some store, the one that had the system, two controllers, transfer pak, and of course, Pokemon Stadium. This was my birthday present one year. I tore it open and looked at it, asking "What is this?"

I didn't know what it was, all I knew was a little gray cartridge was inside the box that said "Pokemon Stadium" on it. I resolved it must be something related to pokemon, so I was excited about the gift.

My mom plugged it up, and my first ever time playing a game was a pokemon battle against my Mother! xD

That very N64 still sits in my room to this day, every game I have ever owned still on my shelf. It is very special to me. I still play it quite often, as of right now I'm playing through Banjo-Tooie, another thing I was a fan of as a child.

My gaming career started with the Super Nintendo and my first video game--Toy Story! Because it was already my favorite movie at the time, I got right into the game. Of course I could never get past level 4, but I still liked it. To this day, I still have Toy Story the game and have mastered it. Then my other favorite was none other than Super Mario World. I also had A Link to the Past, but I was so little that I really didn't do much besides walk around the castle.

Nintendo 64 came around, and the game was Super Mario 64. 'Nuff said.

GameCube came around, and I remember being so excited when my mom took me to Toys 'R Us and bought it, I dropped my Pikachu hat on the floor and forgot it there. My first game on that was Sunshine...which I found just didn't live up to Super Mario 64. But I remember nearly sh*ting my pants when I was at a media store and saw the trailer for Super Smash Bros Melee. From then on, I knew I had found my game, and went on to train to be a Smash Master.

And if Mence, Flow, and Diniro are gone, that means I take the title of the defending NFF King of Smash Bros by default,as only that family could defeat me most of the time....

I think my greatest moment as a gamer was when I defeated the Wizpig in Diddy Kong Racing. Seriously, that motherf***er took me literally 8 hours. He was harder to beat the first time than he was in the rematch race at Future Funland.

Another memory I have of Nintendo was meeting my current boyfriend. Not exactly a gaming memory, but it has to do with video games so it counts!

I was at school one night, hating it so much because I was a Honors Graduate and stuck at at community college.

"I don't belong here, I'm way too smart and beautiful for this place." I said to myself, instantly getting distracted by the snack machine and the oreos soon after. But I had reached a dilemma. I had enough money for one snack, just ONE snack. There were at least four I wanted. Oreos or Chips Ahoy? Sunchips or Doritos? I couldn't choose.

"I recommend the rip-off oreos." A voice I didn't know said to me from behind. That was weird, I wasn't even considering those cheap imitations. I turned around to see who said it.

He was wearing a red hoodie, with the Nintendo logo stamped on it. It was love at first sight. Being the Nintendo fans we were, we had a long conversation about pokemon and legend of zelda, traded phone numbers, and the rest was history. <3
