PlayStation/PSOne/PSX Care FAQ

Table of Contents
I. Welcome
II. PS and PSOne/PSX Differences
III. Games
IV. System
V. Controllers
VI. Memory Cards
VI. Legal Jargon

I. Welcome
Welcome to my handy dandy PlayStation care guide. The PlayStation is
a very simple system to care for. Because it uses discs instead of
cartridges, the games don't require as meticulous of a cleaning.
The system itself is fairly simple, the only problematic area being the
lens.

II. PS and PSOne/PSX Differences
You may have heard the PlayStation referred to as the PS,
the PSOne, or the PSX. Well, the PSOne refers to the more compact
Redesigned version of the console. the other two refer to the original
Console. If you have a large, gray brick, then you have a PS. or PSX if
you prefer. If you have a small, rounded, white console then you are an
owner of a PSOne.

The Main difference between the PSX and the PSOne is the size. The PSOne
is obviously a lot smaller. The PSOne is also way, way harder to hack or modify
so if you're into that kind of thing, you're out of luck on the PSOne. The PSOne
can also be fitted with an optional LCD screen, and can be more easily hooked up to
a car, so it's great for travel.

III. The Games
PlayStation games are CDs, or Compact Discs. you may notice that the
backs of PlayStation games are black, while most other CDs, such as those
for your computer or audio CDs have silver backing. Well, it was an
anti-piracy attempt, though a failed one. On a technical level, it's just
black acrylic and there's nothing special about it at all.

If that doesn't satisfy your intrigue, then just watch this video.

PlayStation CDs need to be cared for in much the same way any other
CDs do. the basics are don't leave them lying around outside of their cases
and give them the occasional polish with rubbing alcohol. No, alcohol will not
damage your disc - at last not if you don't soak it or something.

Put a bit of rubbing alcohol on a soft, smooth cloth. Do not use anything that
might be abrasive such as paper towels or wash cloths. A rag intended for cleaning
eye glasses is ideal, and eye glass cleaner can inf act be substituted for alcohol.

- DO NOT rub in a circular motion, or drag the cloth around the disc.

-DO start at the inner part of the disc, and move the cloth outward.

IV. System
The PlayStation console is pretty much just a CD player. Make sure nothing gets inside
the buttons to hinder them, and NEVER touch the lens with your finger. If your games are
not reading, and you think the lens is the culprit, use a q-tip and a trace amount of rubbing alcohol.
If the system somehow gets dirty, paper towels and pretty much any cleaning substance will do. Just take
precaution not to get anything inside the system.

V. Controllers
The controllers require little care at all. Don't leave them around for pets to mistake for toys
and when don't throw it at the wall if Metal Gear Rex kills Solid Snake. If a button becomes stuck,
either there is something blocking it from movement or it has come loose. In both cases, your only solution
is to take it apart and look at it. If something is in the way, remove it. If ti has come dislodged, put it back
where it belongs. If it is broken, new buttons can be found on eBay, as well as new controllers.

VI. Memory Cards
I'm going to keep this short and sweet.

DO NOT:

-Put them in the dish washer

-Play catch with them

-Try to play them in your Gameboy

-Be rough with them

That's pretty much it.

VI. Legal Jargon
This guide was written by Caleb Wright, more commonly know on the
interwebs as SuperGamecube64. This guide belongs to him, and your mere mortal
eyes have been permitted to gaze upon it, link to it wherever it may be, or print
it out for personal use. Altering, hosting without permission, selling or any other
copyright violating or illegal use of this FAQ will result in anger, and be resolved
with a game of rocket launcher chicken.
