Zombies becoming a game genre?

If there was a general gaming section, I'd post this there, but there is not.

Anyone else feel like zombies is becoming almost a genre of its own thing? I mean, we've always had games like Resident Evil, but in the last few years there has been Left 4 Dead and its sequel, the zombie Red dead Redemption expansion, Plants vs Zombies, Dead Rising and its sequel, as well as the upcoming Dead Island.

Are we eventually going to be counting zombie survival as a genre offshoot of survival horror?

Saying Zombie horror is a genre is like saying the WWII shooter is it's own genre.

But just like how WWII shooters are just shooters,I could say the same about how zombies are just parts of the horror/survival horror genre

I pretty much agree in full with Megas. It's a common game archetype, but like WWII shooters, I don't feel they vary enough from normal survival horrors/shooters to warrant getting their own sub-genre.

It's certainly becoming more popular. Personally, I don't find the undead as appealing as most. Although, Borderlands' Zombie Island of Dr. Ned was absolutely fantastic and I enjoyed every second of it. If only I knew brains collected before the Braaains! mission was accepted didn't count, it would have saved me a lot of time.

Crazy Chocobo will become famous soon enough

There are plenty of games around now with zombies, I never used to be a fan of zombies, they're kind of creepy but some games are very fun. I was given Plants vs. Zombies a while back to try and I got hooked pretty much straight away. It's rather silly but cool.

A lot of people find that sort of idea appealing, I'm not into Resident Evil or any of those horror games so much, not my thing but it's a big area of interest to gamers.

They can keep making them, people will either love them or get sick of them. It doesn't worry me either way. xD I don't personally think it will become its own sub genre but you'll never know. I personally hope not lol.
