Wired 360 connection help

If you've ever spoken with me on a messenger, you know that my internet sucks. If you've ever played a game with me on XBL, you know that it generally sucks for this as well. Well, I've discovered that my internet is much faster and much more reliable when wired.

Well, since Verizon didn't give us a "normal" router, and we have to deal with this bullcrap hotspot thing, I cannot plug an Ethernet cable into the router. I tried plugging int he router to the 360 using USB and it wouldn't work.

So, now I have the router plugged into my computer via USB, and an Ethernet cable running from my computer to my 360. IT reads! The problem is, when I do connection test, it won't even connect to the network.

Any ideas/knowledge that could help me?

Well, in order to run your xbox through your computer before like you were doing, it was technically wireless since your computer was wireless. In order to run the xbox you had to bridge the wireless and the wired connections for the xbox to work properly through there. I'm not sure you can do the same thing with a usb bridging to a wired connection.

Actually, the connection sued to be purely wireless(I have the fancy newfangled 360 model). But yeah, I see your point...I think.

unless you can somehow program a new connection of sorts to integrate the usb into there then bridge it with the wired connection. That would work but there is like a million options when setting up a new connection of sorts that have different purposes.

you mean usb to laptop, Ethernet to xbox, then bridge connections? Tried it.

yeah but technically your computer is wired to the internet via the usb hotspot thing so bridging the wireless and wired connections like normal would do nothing.

what you might have to do is get a modem or router that would attach to the hotspot via the rounded port thing that is on your hotspot connector thing if a hotspot thing can run a router then you'll have 4 ethernet ports free to run to both your computer and your 360 seperately.

Found something you can try:

Quote:
Step by step this is what i did:

1. Install freetether & mobile hot spot

2. Connect your PC/Mac to mobile hot spot

3. Go to you PC/Mac's network settings & write down: Subnet Mask, Router/Gateway & DNS

4. On Xbox, PS3, etc go to network settings & "MANUALLY" set up your wifi connection.

A. In IP Address put exactly what your PC/Mac's wifi is using except add 1 to the last digit, so if its a .1 make it .2 on your PS3, Xbox, etc.

B. Then input DNS, Gateway/Router & Subnet Mask EXACTLY how you wrote it down.

Enjoy!

so, get a router with ethernet jacks, and use the charge/USB port to plug the mifi modem into it? It's worth a shot...

yeah, that's what I have in mind I think. Not sure what the little rounded plugins are called but charger ports sound good I guess lol.
