Half-Life Games Discussion

Hey, so anyone else played these? I must have played the original half like 7 times through by now over the last decade! I've played it on PC, PS2 & even Dreamcast though it was unreleased on Dreamcast hehe. I didn't get a chance to play Blue Shift until a couple of years ago on the same Dreamcast game. I am finally getting to play opposing force now and loving it. You guys have no idea how much I've wanted to play opposing force and how long I've waited to play it! Waited too long lol.

I just picked up the original three on PC finally yesterday and have been tearing my way through opposing force. Opposing force seems like there is a lot more added, I also heard it's a longer game. Blue Shift was pretty short, but awesome still. These games are freaking awesome. Something about the half life games jsut stands out different from other FPS' for me, maybe it's just memories, idk.

Half Life 2 never did it for me really, I never played it long enough to give it a chance and I suppose I will soon on the orange box but it just didn't feel the same playing it as it did for the originals. I was 10 and dumb so that's probably part of it. I bought it on it's xbox release though still... Theres one thing I find weird though, no one ever talks about the originals, at least not Blue Shift or Opposing force for sure. I always found that strange is all. I always loved how they kind of intertwined the stories the way they did with these three, covering every perspective of the story. You had the Marine's story, the Scientist's story and the security guards story. I kind of wonder why they never tried this with Half Life 2, although I don't know if it was possible for half life 2 with the different story that I don't know much about. I think that the main character in Blue shift had quite a few appearances in half life 2 as the rebellion or whatever happened...

Decay was pretty cool too, although I don't remember much about it, I was 8 and it's been like a decade since I played it lol.

Counter Strike was a pretty interesting addition to the series although it had nothing to do with the series it was a death match game based off the half life engine. It was really fun. I never played it online though. Just on Xbox offline.

I remember hearing that they had a fourth game planned for the original series called Black ops, following one of the black ops soldiers that were also involved. (yeah, CoD made a game with that name, w/e this was like 2000)

Discuss please, I'm curious to know your opinions on these games

Just keep in mind that blue shift isn't bad. People seem to stress over the fact that its short and it has no new weapons from the original like opposing force did. Doesn't mean it's bad. It's just as fun as half life if not more. It's about two thirds as long as half life which isn't bad.

Does The Orange Box count? It was one of the first games I bought with my Xbox 360 a couple of years ago, and I enjoyed HL2 + Episodes immensely. All I have to say is that it's probably the best console game available for the amount of content compared to the price. I'm not a big computer gamer, so I haven't played any of the other Half Life games or expansions. I have a very small glimmer of hope that Episode 3 will make its way to XBLA. That is, of course, if news about it ever comes out.

I played Half Life 2, and didn't finish it. I played Half Life 2 episode 1, and didn't finish it. Both were very good games, they just weren't for me. The HL spinoff Portal however, blew me away.

It amazes me how many people haven't played the original half life games, yet played half life 2. Just saying lol. You guys are missing out. I'll try to get around to reviewing each half life game though. That's what I plan.

Opposing force was astounding. I just finished it yesterday. It is definitely my favourite now. The additions were just awesome also. The only annoying part was fighting those ninja wannabe black ops soldiers :-/

Used to play these games all the dam time. Used to play Team Fortress for days when that mod first came out. Counterstrike many days/nights playing it.

I love Half-Life 2 + episodes and Deathmatch.
I'll be getting these 3 in a few months.
