Iwata taking 50% salary cut

Iwata is going to be taking a 50% cut from his salary, and is taking responsibility for the 3DS. Other executives are also taking a 30% cut with loss of some bonuses. Nintendo also knows they are lacking in the digital department when it comes to the 3DS, but plans for strong support in the future for both it and the Wii U.

Looks like nintendo is in some deep shit, and yet they are still giving us those 20 free games and cutting their own pay.

One of two things will happen:

Nintendo will bounce back phenomenally and and this will all be another page in gaming history OR...

80% is being generous.

This is wild. 10 round of a heavyweight fight, and Nintendo is on the mat. Got to get back up.

Good god! All I can say is F*** gaming if it's only microsoft and sony. One of two of my favourite childhood companies, and the other better not drop. Either way, nintendo is too much of an empire now. They'll bounce back.

You people act like Nintendo will be completely destroyed if their hardware fails.

It'll either come down to it that Nintendo will just cut their losses and produce their software as a third party, or the creative minds will jump ship and form their own studio just like Keiji Inafune and Yuji Naka did.

This is troubling news, yes, but don't assumes this is the end of Nintendo entirely.

I don't think this particular move spells trouble for Nintendo at all, really. When your financial numbers are tanking, you shouldn't reap a reward you haven't earned; I applaud Iwata for realizing that the 3DS was a bit of a bust these first few months and that his heart is with Nintendo, not his salary.

The only way Nintendo's creative masterminds will jump off the sinking ship is if it actually starts to spiral even further into financial peril, which I don't see happening until we see the Wii U and how well it does.

Nintendo should definitely be concerned, but this is by no means the end. I mean, people thought Apple was done for in the 90s, and look at where they are now ― don't ever assume a company is down and out until they're gone for good.

I agree with this, actually.

I have hope that the ship will right itself, but when reading about the financial troubles they've been having, I get a bit scared for them.
