3DS - my 2 cents

Since the spawning of the DS Lite Nintendo came along with a DSi and DSi XL, which were only incremental Updates of the same handheld gaming device.
Things such as shorter battery life or removed GBA-slot (DS Lite -> DSi), much bigger screen of the DSi XL in comparison to the DSi, but no change in resolution (resulting in a more pixelated picture on the DSi XL) or unchanged hardware (DS Lite: 67mhz, DSi: 133mhz, DSi XL: 133mhz) were the most complained about issues of the past "updated" devices.
Day by day i ask myself how Nintendo could put out a handheld device like the 3DS at this point in time.
Maybe I'm lacking some fundemantals in macro-/microeconomics and hardware engineering, but there are some questions I can't find an answer to, such as:
The device itself:
How is it possible to throw something as "immature" as the 3DS's 3D-effect on the market? If perceived correctly, it undoubtedly can enhance your visual experience (if you can see it and like it), but implementing such a feature with the huge drawbacks like the ultra-low viewing angle and the constraint to hold the device perfectly still while playing is straightforward annoying. People who played Ocarina Of Time 3D and tried to aim using the gyroscope sensor while having the 3D enabled knows that this is impossible - which leaves the user with the option to either have 3D enabled and aim with the analogue stick (while the gyroscope can't be disabled at the same time) - or to play without the 3D option.
The device's interior:
Outdated hardware (the graphics chip stems from 2006), which is easily surpassed by iPhone 3GS's and iPad's hardware.
Augmented Reality and the cameras:
Nintendo advertise AR, which heavily depends on the incorporated cameras, but at the same time these cameras have a resolution of 0,3 MP - the lowest possible resolution on the market, which is practically useless if you're not in a place with good light conditions.
The screen:
Comparing with the previous editions of the DS family, the brightness has been decreased - and at the same time the screen is heavily prone to reflections, since it isn't matt. As a mobile gaming device, which the 3DS in essence should be, it is due to the drawbacks of the upper screen next to useless.
Volume control:
On the DSi the resolution for volume control was the best to date: instead of relying on sliding-mechanics, Nintendo used buttons, which made for excellent adjustment and weren't prone to changing the volume by accidental touch. Why go back to sliding, Nintendo?
Software:
The DSi featured an application named "Pictochat". It made it possible to communicate with others. Today Nintendo is advertising "Street-Pass" with the Nintendo 3DS, but they fail to give the users an option to communicate after their meeting. All you can do is get some infos on the other characters or play minigames with them.
eShop:
Wasn't available at launch. Now it has arrived, but Nintendo hasn't offered any top titles through the Virtual Console as of yet (with the exception of "Link's Awakening DX" maybe).
Super Mario Land 1 is up, but, despite all nostalga - who really wants to play such a pale, pixelated game on his 3DS. Plus, such games cost about 5 bucks each, which seems a lot to me.
In Addition to that it isn't possible to buy one of those games (in Europe) unless you own a credid card. The Nintendo-cards, which were supposed to be used for paying stuff you get at the eShop, aren't available to date.
Launch-lineup:
No Mario, Zelda or other big names were available at the 3DS's launch. The first big "hit" came 3 months later with "Zelda - Ocarina Of Time 3D", which itself is "only" a remake. Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario Land 3D are expected to arrive at the end of this year, which makes it 9-12 months after the launch of the 3DS. That leaves the customer with either unappealing third-party titles or remakes such as "Pilotwings Resort 3D" or "Super Street Fighter IV 3D" - which isn't everyone's cup of tea.
By the time these games see the light of day, the PSVita will be out and the Nintendo 3DS will unfortunately rank as a manyfold outdated piece of electronic junk.
Meanwhile, big projects such as "Mega-Man Legends 3" or "Assassin's Creed - Lost Legacy" have been suspended - the developers seem to notice, that the 3DS doesn't offer much of a perspective, engineering- and money-wise.
What could be improved upon:
A modern (Nintendo) mobile gaming device shouldn't focus on things which the smartphone-industry has already brought to near-perfection, but rather bring all it's attention to the gamers who are in need of "hardcore" games and the experience that comes with it - which simply cannot be delivered by any smartphone or tab and it's casual games.
Nintendo should focus on games and interacting with other PLAYERS first - and leave the multimedia market for the smartphone industry and have a good laugh about how Sony and their PSVita will fail at that.
Nintendo has the great privilege of having nearly all of gaming histories big names under it's flag: Mario, Wario, Luigi, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Link, den Pokémon & Co. are most of the people's reasons to turn to Nintendo.
If Nintendo would let go of the 3D-technology (which undoubtedly is not as market-ready as they might have thought), this would provide them with some room to invest in more actual hardware, a good display for mobile gaming (either matt or with good brightness), better cameras, if they still want to bet on AR (1,3 or 2mp shouldn't be THAT expensive?!) and software development. The Virtual Console is the perfect place to provide the fans with classics from e.g. SNES and GBA - and the people who didn't buy anything after the DS Lite because of it's GBA-compatibility could change their minds.
Is this a task Nintendo can't handle?

Truth is Nintendo are as cheap as. 3DS I read on IGN costs about 60 dollars to make. So it goes without saying the tech is already old. Considering the price drop it also suggests it could have been much more powerful and they could have still charged the same price. BUT! Non of this would matter if there was any games worth playing for it and they were out now and not too far away to care about.
I find myself moaning about 3DS because it is the only thing I can do with it.

You realize that everyone, everywhere is selling things more than it cost to make, right? It's called making a profit. A soda probably only cost around 10 cents to make, maybe even less, and movie theaters sell them for like 5 dollars.

by the way, the 3DS cost around $100 to make, not 60. Your fault for even going to IGN in the first place. So with this price drop they are not even charging double of what it cost. Also, of course technology for 3D is incredibly old, 3D is nothing new at all.

If you don't like the 3DS, sell it, and stop talking about it.
