Miyamoto: Buy Starfox for 3ds or Starfox is dead.

Well he said (from the official site)

During a revealing Iwata asks, Miyamoto said: "I told Dylan-san (Dylan Cuthbert, Star Fox co-creator) that if this game wasn't interesting, I couldn't make any more Star Fox games! I said, "If first-time players like this game, Star Fox will be reborn!" That's how much I'm counting on this one game!

"So if there's anyone out there who wants to look at the future, please play this! (laughs)"

Im not as angry about it as this might sound - So if it doesn't sell well on a handheld no ones interested in we wont see Starfox again? Doesn't seem very fair considering it is a port and anyone interested in Starfox will have already played it on the 64 or virtual console. Theres many out there Im sure who love starfox, but wont buy it for 3DS because they either have something against ports or feel they played it to death and dont see much point in spending money on it!

I live in hope however, I have a feeling - like majoras mask, they are making noises to get us to plead even though they have already decided to make the game! Which is fine by me! pleeeeeeeeeease!

I know one thing - Star Fox needs a HD outing on WiiU - and I think we can all agree we would rather have Starfox than Animal crossing or Nintendogs!

Even if he is joking, I personally think dropping a game due to constantly lowering sales is fine. There's no point in making a game for a series people show no interest in.

Why is it not fair? As far as the Star Fox series goes, sales have slumped in the games since Star Fox Adventures.

Also, you keep using the word 'port', when clearly the game is a remake. If it was a port, nothing, inculding graphics and sound, would've changed. Because its gaining improved visuals, sound, and even has a new control scheme using the 3DS' gyroscope.

Here's another thing too: why not have games on the go, especially games like Super Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, and Star Fox 64?

I would buy that, just so I can have those games with me anywhere I go; I'm sure there's people who think that way as well.

It's not Nintendo's fault when people plead for games that will eventually be released. That's just acting like a spoiled kid; you want it, and you want it now!!!

I don't understand your hatred of Animal Crossing or Nintendogs; Nintendogs may be more tuned for the casual market, but it's still a fun little pet simulator.

And Animal Crossing shows more Nintendo love than it lets on: you can acquire Mario, Zelda, and Metroid items as furniture and clothing, and you can even spruce your town up to look like something out of any other Nintendo game.

Have you tried any games from each of these series? If memory serves, you said before that you've never played Animal Crossing.

As far as Star Fox goes, if you support the series and buy the games, then you may just as well assure a Wii U installment of the series.

As it's been said before, why put in the time and money to create a game that may not sell well? That just puts Nintendo in an even bigger rut.

Very true. But I dont think it is fair to come to that concluesion untill you have made a serious attempt at a *new* game. Plus with not very many people owning a 3DS and the economic climate we are all in the criteria for what constitutes 'selling well' has to be very conservative.

The price drop is coinciding with Nintendo's wave of games, and it all starts with Star Fox 64.

$170 dollars seems like a reasonable price; even with the price at $250, people still bought the system, despite the economic climate we're all in. In fact, it was Nintendo's highest selling handheld ever.

Nintendo may have shown weakness in that move, but they're trying to stay competitive and afloat during all this.

I don't really mind remakes, it's always fun to play an older game again, especially in better quality. It's a 'new' game to me.

(In all fairness there has only been 2 games and including Adventures, all three went off in directions that caused widepread criticism - I loved them all but it wasn't exactly what I wanted or what made the franchise so higly respected and enjoyed.)

(All the best games were big risks. They all cost a lot. And Nintendo aren't always right about whats best for their games as Rareware proved to them time and again, most significantly with Donkey Kong County. Nintendo is renouned amoung all games makers because Nintendo have the gift of being able to make franchises - Most attempt by all others fizzle out, most of nintendos are all over 15 years and people do care about them.

Nintendo is in a rut simply because it isn't making many games, let alone taking chances. The Wii has been a break for just about all of those franchises, its not as if they are being over used - or that they have made much to replace so many missing games.

They still didn't sell well, regardless if there were two games or two hundred games between then and now.

You said it best earlier, though. The economic climate is causing people to buy less. It's not a matter of fact of what Nintendo did with their games in the past. Yes, they took jumps on things, and they got a lucky break and came out of it clean.

However, they've shown recently that they're vulnerable too to the economic downturn. They can't be taking risky chances any more. Which leads to my next point....

Quote:
Nintendo is in a rut simply because it isn't making many games, let alone taking chances.
Riddle me this: Why would you take a risky chance on a product that may not sell well in an economic climate such as this? That's stupid. Do something that you know would work, and make it work in a way that people would buy it, even in this climate.

Also, Skyward Sword, Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Super Mario 3D Land, Star Fox 643D, Kid Icarus Uprising, Luigi's Mansion 2, and Kirby Mass Attack say hi. Nintendo is making games. But, oh boo hoo, they're not out yet. Give it time. Most of the games I just listed are going to be out by the end of the year.

Quote:

Once again, I ask: in this economic climate, do you think Nintendo would try to take a chance on ideas that may not work? They're doing something they know will work, especially in the economic climate.

Whether he's joking or not, things aren't looking too bright for Star Fox right now.

Also, it's funny how I am more eager to read Glast's dissections than the actual post he's dissecting. :>
