Is it me or..

Headphones and earphones are really low in quality. I've stopped buying earphones because they would always break or malfunction in less than a month. And I've stopped buying cheap headphones because they don't seem to last very long I didn't see a problem with that; you get what you pay for and in the case of earphones it wasn't much. Now, I bought this 40$ pair of headphones about a year ago thinking they would last me a few years or so if I kept them in perfect condition.

Believe me when I say that I have kept them in perfect condition. I've never tried to force it into any clustered bags or left it lying around to collect dust. Recently my headphones have started having problems similar to the ones my old ones have had: the sound isn't fully being transmitted and at times only parts of the sound are heard.

Has anyone else had this problem? Anyone know a quality brand?
I don't mind paying fifty dollars for a pair of headphones, but if they won't last me a good year or two then what's the point?

I always got the $0.99 ones at Wal-Mart for this exact reason. At least when they messed up I wasn't out much money because of it.

You should see my headphones. The wiring is stripped and they're literally held together with Duct Tape.

I'm looking into Logitech G35 headset. Read everywhere about them and they're very highly loved, so when I get the money, I'm going to replace these damn things.

Beats by Dre. My pair haven't had anything wrong with them yet, & even if they did they come with a 3 year guarantee. Never buy Skullcandy headphones though, I've gone through about 5 pairs in 3 years.

This. Paying more than $20 for a pair of headphones/earphones isn't exactly my cup of tea. If they ever do break, they are cheap to replace.

Well I had these good Sony earphones and let me tell you, they had awesome sound quality, and when listening to music it sounded like you were there. They were $15, but well worth it. Until Mence got his hands on it, and then my baby nephew... -_-"

I pay more for them because I can tell quite the difference in sound quality, and I hate it when stuff sounds bad. I also know better quality headsets don't break anywhere near that often. When you measure out having to replace cheap ones often or expensive ones not as much, price is within the same ball parks. I'm picky I guess. The difference in quality between 10 dollar headphones and 100 is astronomical, but the difference between 100 and 500 dollars is minuscule if you ask me.

Also, I have 7.1 Surround Sound on this computer, and no pair of headphones under 70 bucks can even use that frequency that i've investigated. Not unless they're on sale.

So basically, the sweet spot for the price/value balance is 80 to 150 IMO.

Edit: Ironically enough, the pair I have are Sony as well. They've lasted me over 4 years, which is unheard of nowadays for headphones/headsets.

Funny you should mention that, less than two weeks after I bought a pair of Skullcandy, the right bud shorted out.

Yeah, Sony earphones are very durable, I haven't been able to find the earphones I had, so I'm assuming their selling out because of its superb quality.

The sound quality is amazing but I woulda loved for it to last longer.

OoOooO. I'll look into those sets. How long have the sets been working for you?

But I don't want to be running to get a new pair every two weeks.
The only stores that sell decent sets, or so I thought, are pretty far from where I live; about a 20-30 minute drive. I will always prefer spending lots of money on something that will last me a while than spending almost nothing for something that won't last me long at all.
