Well im debating whether to get the new wii resort, but im really curious about the wii motion plus. What does it do and can it work with older wii games like the original wii sports?

Short answer: It's an accessory that improves upon the existing motion sensing technology of the "stock" Wii Remote. And yes, it will improve accuracy when playing older Wii games.

basically what zero said.

It just improves accuracy, and works with all games. It is required a few games though

I really don't notice any difference between a Wii Remote with Motion Plus and one without.

It doesn't actually make any difference to most games whether you have it or not. They are not programmed to use the gryo built into the Motion Plus, therefore they do not use it.
However for a few games (such as Wii Sports Resort, Wii Play Motion, and the upcoming Zelda: Skyward Sword) it is essential, and for those games, it greatly improves sensitivity, allowing for 1:1 motion control.

The only thing it really does for games that weren't developed with it in mind, from what Zero has seen, is keep better track of the pointer...and perhaps amp up the sensitivity a bit.
