Politics?

I'm interested in learning politics but I don't know the first thing about it? I don't know how people in my high school class know all of these things. I tried watching the news and that doesn't help much. Does anyone have a source of where i can learn about this kind of stuff?

Wait until you are a senior and have to take american goverment/economics
(idk if you have to take them, but here in cali they are required)

You'll learn plenty about politics in those classes.
Oh and in geography I learned a thing or two about politics, but that might have just been the teacher.
Still, google is your best bet if you want to learn right now

but yeah, close this thread. No one wants a politic thread.
at least you got two answers

Benji_Nottz will become famous soon enoughBenji_Nottz will become famous soon enough

an A level in Sociology is a good starting point, but it depends what you want to learn. If you want a lazy lesson then watch "YES PRIME MINISTER" It was written by too clever guys who had civil servants and MPs leak true stories not even the media knew about, and they would turn it into comedy - Although Lynn said the truth was more funny than anything we could make up. It also doesnt exactly take sides (so if your a labour guy you wont feel annoyed as if its all conservative nonsense)

But IMO here's the 3 main areas of study:

The stucture of politcal systems and the Law - Literally how things operate - eg UK, House of common and Lords, how votes are counted and translate into seats, what a leader must do in order to create and pass a new law.

The ideologies of parties - What Labour/Democrats/Republicans/Tories believe in and why

The politics of politics - The battle of ideologies - in other words theories vs reality...Eg how religion to some may trump actually facing how the world works (homosexuality) - As well as the whip of the Cheif-Whip. Party politics over personal politics, and how politicans style what they say to avoid public and media backlash - mostly it doesn't matter what a MP thinks, he has to worry how the press and the opposition will twist it. So for a matter of survival many MPs dare not speak the truth - Power/votes over honesty/pride.

Thats probably the 3 main areas. (Of course history is very important too) I'd say learn them in that order - One must understand how government works before moaning about what is or isn't done. Like cutting peoples benefitts in the UK as is being chatted about at lot now (cuts for rioting, truency) it's just wont ever happen, because of how the system works, how the law is written and what studies and the past tell us. However a debate will ensue nevertheless because it is what you are seen to be doing not what you do that counts (A personal opinion of mine)

Just know, learning about this is never ending and there will always be plenty who tell you you are wrong - best to specialise - no one person can be well versed in the whole spectrum of politics.
