New, original Zelda Coming to the 3DS

Quote:
New Zelda title being prepared for 3DS, Majoraís Mask remake still possible

November 4th, 2011 Posted in 3DS, News, Posted by Valay Now that development on The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword has finished, what lies ahead for the series? Producer Eiji Aonuma answered that exact question in an interview with Portuguese gaming site MyGames.
Some fans have been asking for a remake of Majoraís Mask for the 3DS, but it sounds like Nintendo has something completely new in store for the system.
Aonuma told the site:
ďWe are already preparing a new game, a game in the series for the Nintendo 3DS, but donít think that it is a direct sequel to the Zelda titles released on DS. We are talking about a new game, but it takes much of what has been done on previous handhelds.Ē
So, does this news rule out Majoraís Mask for 3DS? Absolutely not. In fact, Aonuma revealed that heís spoken to Miyamoto about the idea, though Nintendo has decided to make a completely original game because it didnít seem right releasing two remakes so quickly.
ďItís something Iím asked about often and I assure you that it is something Iíve spoken to Miyamoto about. But recently we released The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D as a remake. We are considering the idea, but it didnít seem right to launch a remake one after another, so the next Zelda game on 3DS will be original.Ē
Thanks to Captain N for the tip; thanks to Tim for providing a more accurate translation!

Are you guys happy for a brand new game, or would you prefer a Majora's Mask remake? Other thoughts?

I've already emailed Nintendo telling them I want a Majora's Mask Remake. But a new game is cool. As long as they don't do cell shade graphics. Already 2 of those on DS.

If it still using touch screen movement and sword controls, count me out. If they move movement to the circle pad and put in button controls, I'm game.

Just an update: this interview was transcribed incorrectly. Aonuma is merely using an original 3DS Zelda game as a hypothetical. Just throwing a heads-up there.

But it's no surprise that they're working on a new Zelda.

I myself would like to see a Majora's Mask 3D, but I think Aonuma was smart to put the new Zelda before the remake. It would just further the argument that Nintendo only makes remakes and doesn't create original titles.

I'm with Glastonbury. I'm glad that a Majora's Mask remake isn't the next 3DS Zelda. New, creative, original games will always be more fun than remakes, in my eyes.

remakes seem more like a special occasion type of thing, at least for me. Like console launch or an anniversary.

I'm sure the 3DS would have sold a lot more if OoT was a launch title.

Announcing an MM remake out of the blue would be weird.

Bryaugh will become famous soon enough

God damn, I came here thinking they were remaking the original Legend of Zelda in 3D as a full blown modernised game plus story >.< don't get my hopes up like that guiiiise!

Also, yeah. I agree with Glastonbury. Nintendo do a lot of remakes, it'll be awesome for the next Zelda to be a new one.
