Stylus vs finger

So, I look at my 3DS. There several small (unnoticeable unless you look for them) scratches here and there eon the touch screen. Well, then I look at my Pod touch, which I use my finger for - no scratches, even though its screen is constantly exposed.

Nintendo warns against using your finger, but given this comparison, isn't it actually a better idea? Sure it isn't very productive for stylus based gameplay, but when I'm in menus I usually opt to use my finger just in case.

On a side note, how many items have you been somewhere and seen a child with a stylus pen where they have chewed on the end, and it is sharp and rough, yet they still use it, and their touch screen looks like it was hit by a hurricane? I see it all too often myself.

the scratches would come from the stylus based gameplay, not from just tapping through menus. duh doy

If I'm playing something like Pokemon Soul Silver, I'll just use my thumbs to tap the attack buttons and whatnot. I use my stylus for games like... Harvest Moon, to move items and whatnot...
